You're right - and still with the horrendously small photos too. If it were me, I'd have spent a bit of time converting them all with bigger images and some AJAX or something a little faster. They do it for Big Weekend, why not their permanent site?

Another local site has gone live: Sheffield & South Yorkshire, with Northampton to follow shortly, while Sussex is now in the works.

I understand that some changes - in terms of look and navigation - are on the cards for the BBC News site early next year.

Have any specifics yet been discussed internally, and if so, does anyone in the know have any idea of what might be on the way?

Launched today are individual BBC local websites for Surrey and Sussex for the first time, consigning Southern Counties to history at long last; additionally BBC Surrey has finally made it onto the iPlayer as well.

Other local websites coming soon: Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Devon, Leicester, Liverpool & Merseyside, Suffolk and North West Wales.
