I agree there's an irony here. But I suspect people south of the border merely miss local output and, in the case of people on this forum, presentation. I don't think they're saying they don't want the network output!

As a youngster living in a three-way overlap area during the 70s and 80s, I do recall a lot of non peak time network shows that were moved about and shown at different times, but nothing actually dropped.

Southern showed the first series of The Muppet Show at about 14:30hrs on Sunday, whilst LWT and ATV had it on early Sunday evening. Crossroads was shown a different times, and not the same episode on a particular day.

I do recall Southern shifting 'Wednesday at 8', to 22:35hrs one week for some reason (pity about the programme's name !)

Of course back then there was a fair bit of multi-region children's Saturday morning programming, culminating with Tiswas becoming virtually fully networked.

On balance I applaud what STV are doing. I was in Edinburgh earlier this year, watching STV did have that 'feeling' of the 'ITV' of 20-30 years ago

Didn't this show get changed to 'London Night Out' eventually?

I would not say that! Scottish has been dropping things for years, I mean YEARS! expect it wasn't always so called high class drama, but there where a few.

* series 2 - 4 talking telephone numbers
* Last series of Barrymore Im kind of music
* Last series of blankety blank.

I dare say if we all thourgh about it some of us could come up with more. Scottish regions did actully broadcast Bullseye later in the day on Sundays at 6pm, most other did 5pm while some went for 2pm.
Crossroad, most did it at 18.35 while HTV and STV did it at 17.20 ( it wasn't till BB second year, that it was moved to 18.35)

when I had a look at the local newspapers, there were alot of stranger things with stv than the rest, ( still no one knows about ITV Rolf Harris show and others)

Tiswas will have a look here : http://www.tiswasonline.com/look_in.php?details=on
( grampain has the same slots as LWT in 1979 Jan - july. most of the time)

STV treated the OZ soap baldy in the 80;s
* Young doctors never shown
* Taking 14 years to broadcast all Sons and daughter episode ( some during the Night)
* Sullivan ( never finished )
* A Country Practice ( also never finished )

if we had more time we could go on for days about changes, did you know that STV moved Kenny evert show for one week to 23.35 due to a Scottish public holiday

Few, if any, Australian soaps were properly networked on ITV before Home and Away started. Different regions showed them at different times... and, of course, storylines were often at wildly different points in different regions.

It wasn't a case of STV being different to other regions... it was a case of all the regions being different to each other... as was often the case in the afternoons or after News at 10.

If I remember Talking Telephone Numbers was live and interactive so couldn't be shifted to 1710 when STV ran regional programmes at 1900 - at least not without the risk of a fine from the ITC (lol) - unlike Emmerdale and the other programmes in this slot.

However I don't think it's fair to compare the fact that STV tended to have fewer Ozzie afternoon soaps in the 80s or had to drop particular programmes for specific reasons with an active decision not to show what the network would regard as prestigious output! What we're in now is uncharted territory.

Stv have decided to drop " Good big good buy" ITV rip of Homes under the hammer, but its crap and has two smug presenters for more repeats of Dickinsons real deals! Very Happy Hooray!

STV seems to be trying to earn brownie points from the SNP regime in its anti-English behaviour of refusing to show quality drama produced in England. I don't notice them refusing to show American films. There has so far been no replacement of these programs by drama. In fact Thursday evenings at 9pm resemble Eastern Europe in the darkest days of Brezhnev :- 'Scots who fought Franco' or, as I think of it, 'Scots who fought to establish a Stalinist dictatordhip in Spain'. Just to whom can I make representations about this policy of STV which is virtually abandoning all drama?

"Earning brownie points from the SNP"?

That's so much nonsense. And by the way, "quality drama" is an entirely subjective phrase.

The Scottish history documentary - whatever your views on the subject matter - is Scottish history.

If you want to watch the grand "English" productions, then tune to 853 on Virgin - but then of course, living in England you won't need to,

Like the BBC Scottish History series which spent ages on Bannockburn and did not mention Flodden!!!

Don't forget that the viewing figures for the English drama you despise so much were several times greater than the repeats and parochial tartan tat that replaced them.

Do you have proof to this? how can you say that, even in england there pulling what 3 -5 million viewers which is not a lot.

I saw figures that gave an audience of 600,000 in Scotland for Lewis when earlier series were shown and only 200,000 for the STV replacements of the latest series earlier this year. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1075177&highlight=stv+600+000&page=3

If I remember correctly Channel had problems with this with a few of the Ozzie programmes when we moved from TSW to TVS for our feed. Missing some episodes, reshowing many episodes of others.
