and Tomasz's tongue twisted today on Radio Four

Why does he have to make so many "mistakes"? He has these slips of the tongue and other mishaps all the time. I wonder whether he's doing this purposely to get attention. Do a search on YouTube for all of his bloopers. He's not even professional about it after the mistake.

To be fair other weather-presenters make slip-ups as well; given the number of broadcasts he does, I don't think he bodges up at a greater rate than any other forecaster, and I've seen him do dozens of flawless forecasts. I did a Youtube search as suggested, only six of the clips (discarding duplicates) thereon are of him actually making an error.

It I think it's because of the way The Schaf amusingly reacts to his slip-ups, that attracts attention-- part of his charm in my opinion. OK I can appreciate that's not to everyone's liking; but at least he has a sense of humour about it, which I say is a sign of professionalism. Well it brightens up the foreceasts for me (I think he's far more engaging than most other forecasters), and other listeners too it would appear... Laughing

I agree. He's got charisma and charm and likeability.

And all those other things.

Ah, not just me then Laughing

At least Tomasz is unpretentious enough to laugh at his errors; I think many people admire that (confer the success Phil & Fern), I'm certainly inclined to see the funny of such things. I don't think there's anything unprofessional about his having a little giggle or droll remark after a slip-up-- he gets on with the forecast thereafter-- ultimately his professional function.

In my opinion the weather can be depressing enough at times, without dour presenters Wink

Whenever Laura Tobin does the weather, I take absolutely no interest in the actual forecast whatsoever and it's becoming very concerning. Wink

(sorry, just thought I'd say... Embarassed )

Glad it's not just me then! I think she said it was raining - just as well because I need to cool down after watching her.

The weather on BBC Two after Newsnight last night had the presenter standing on the right with the time/day graphic on the left and the whole map adjusted so it could be viewed as normal.

Is this how it is done or BBC Two or something new?

Not sure if it was just because it was different but I preferred it!

I don't like the look of that but if they want to be different on Two well ........

Some of the others such as sky , CNN have their presenters work or start from the right and the presentation looks and feels ok to watch.

Confused ?

It's the cheeky cheekbones. Lovely Laura has done the One O'Clock all week this week (no innuendo intended!)

What is particularly impressive is that unlike most good looking weather presenters, Laura is a "proper" meteorologist, rather than being a mere presenter who has had some brief training to be able to sound like they know what they're talking about when presenting a forecast prepared by somebody else.

Apparently she has a degree in Physics and Meteorology and following training at the Met Office had the job of briefing the incredibly lucky pilots at RAF Brize Norton. One can imagine that they may have had similar problems in concentrating on the forecast as you have.

I'm sure that Messrs Fish and Kettley will approve - they were quoted in articles a few years ago as being concerned that TV weather presenters were being chosen because they looked good rather than being experienced forecasters.

I reckon that was a pointed swipe at the ITV weather dollies, rather than the Met Office employed Beeb staff.

So, Laura and Thomaz seem to be ticking most of the boxes around here then.

That's nice.
