Some really good news I've just read about...
Simon Parkin has left due to the strain of travelling to and from Somerset each day and Gemma is returing on a full time basis from next week including weekends

Not even the slightest bit funny.

What's happened to the tvnewsroom blog ? There were 115 posts about Meridian on there

I noticed Nia Mason did the late news on Meridian tonight. Wonder if she's freelancing? But I would've thought Fred doing it would be more appropriate. Glad it wasn't Swing Your Pants Parkin though!
They are doing their People's Millions ads again, only the voiceover is done by Nia Mason who was let go in January/February.

I wondered why / how come she was 'back'
Does anyone know what has happened to Gareth Evans ?
Is'nt there someone on here who works or worked at Meridian ? Perhaps you can enlighten us ?

I think they should get Glen Thompsett back, he was really good both as a reporter and better in the studio and has a fabulous voice. Wasn't it his voice that introduced the South-east version of Meridian Tonight before it turned into that hideous pan-regional effort?
They really have off-loaded some very good people in favour of people that are quite clearly either past a sell-by date or just shouldn't be on-screen! Who on earth made the ultimate decision on who should go forward?
Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does Meridian's cheapness know no bounds? They are doing their People's Millions ads again, only the voiceover is done by Nia Mason who was let go in January/February. Can they not afford to get Fred & his ludicrous eyebrows, or his sidekick to do a new voiceover?

Sorry. but on the occasions I ever saw Meridian's South -East version of the local news I thought the voiceover at the top was dreadful and in my mind spoilt what was a good programme otherwise. It was far too slow and serious. Uneccessary and thank god they've got rid of it. Surely Ian Axton should be at the top of the list to return if anyone.

The voiceover was Glen Thompsett. Wasn't really needed but with the ever changing presenters Meridian SE had at the time you can understand why. I don't know what you mean by it spoiling the rest of the programme - that's just nonsense.
I think Ian's just waiting in the wings for Fred to finally retire - whenever that will be! Unless of course, he's moved to other things.

if you are going to quote then at least get it right. I didn't say it spoilt the rest of the programme. I did say.
" I thought the voiceover at the top was dreadful and in my mind spoilt what was a good programme otherwise".
Thats very different.
Anyway I don't know why having different presenters and it wasnt that often, they needed the voice. Name captions surely are enough.
