Well if that is the sign of things to come, The West Country Today will have very low viewing figures from the old Westcountry area.

In the GMTV bulletin, we had the following.

BMW Closures and staff cuts in Swindon
A short piece on RNAS Culdrose (but an interview taken from RNAS Yeovilton Rolling Eyes )
National Trust reports flower damage in Devon and Cornwall (stock picture could have been anywhere)

Traffic news, problems in Gloucester City Centre, problems on the A37 towards Bath and Bristol and finally 1 lane shut on the M5 in Devon near Exeter. (PS it's foggy here in Plymouth at the moment so are there any delays on the Tamar Bridge per chance and what about the Torpoint Ferries? Are there 3 ferries running or not)

Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Spotlight are going to going to get massive viewing figures on this showing!

Based on the glowing report above, I'm glad I stayed in bed! Laughing

I saw it this morning and it was like some one forgot to flick the switch in Plymouth so we got the wrong region instead.... If only!

The new Spotlight sofa was revealed this morning during the Breakfast bulletins. It looks as though they are keeping the laminate-effect flooring (unless there is some painting going on today).

Got to say, as much as I like Peter Rowell (I remember him from his apparance on Look & Read!), this morning's effort wasn't the best... but I will see what I think about the main bulletin later.

One thing I did think would happen, and it looks like it has... the backdrop of the Clifton Suspension Bridge was not there, so it looks like this may have gone.

Not quite sure why but watching Peter Rowell now on the lunchtime update and he doesn't seem his usual cheery self like he was on The West Today so don't be too hasty with your initial thoughts about him.

UPDATE: Oops the weather sting didn't go out too well and ended with a strange and different sting. And it's nice to see they're not attempting to cram the whole region into the weather and treating them as the two seperate regions.

I miss Westcountry News already. The bulletin just now seemed to be just a collection of clips, there were no reports from anyone.

Not so bad lunchtime effort, fair balance of stories, Weather handled well too, Wonder though whether the use of The Eden Project in the evening trailer was a sop to the ex-Westcountry viewers?

That was the usual sting for the (former) Westcountry region. I noticed they are still referring to it as that (albeit West Country).

Although they initially dealt with the weather forecast as two regions, they ended up with a map which effectively showed everything to the south and west of somewhere around Boston in Lincolnshire. Confused

Here's a video of the start/finish which includes a trailer for 'The West Country Tonight' at 6pm.

As for Spotlight...they only seem to have refitted half the studio, so it now looks like a rather uncomfortable mix of old and new Shocked

Lets hope they are going to do the change ala BBC London then, when they had a week with the studio in a temporary setup. From the screen grabs the set does not look complete.

Having the weather presenter behind the sofa, is that a good idea. Wink
No, it doesn't look good to me with the presenter cut off at the knee.

They can leave the floor alone, any darker and it'll look a mess. I suggest Spotlight go to Floors2go for a budget pack if they want to freshen the studio up . Cool Laughing
