There's also been a slight tweak to the header of the homepage. It's been slightly reduced in height and the search box changed to match the one on all the other pages.

I guess coinciding with the announcement to drop external searching as the search options have also disappeared.

On 11th January, dbl posted:
BBC iPlayer's HQ version has had it's quality reduced from 800kbps to 512kbps, it's noticeable in busy/fast moving scenes.

Is this still the case? Reading a six-week old quote from the iPlayer blog:
Right now BBC iPlayer Desktop makes use of the same 800Kbps H.264 content that's used for our High Quality streaming option. We're working on improving that, to provide 1500Kbps H.264 content that should be close to television quality. So, starting around February, we expect to deliver substantially better quality for downloads (these 1500Kbps streams will also be offered for streaming, providing near TV quality in iPlayer).

It looks like the new weather website will be making it's permanent home on the news subdomain. I've noticed that some of the links which were disabled now work such as...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/hi/news/default.stm (Weather News)
...I assume the new weather site will also allow the converted regional sites (eg. Bristol) to use the new wide template for the weather page as currently they're using the old format.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/ was due to launch today. I'm assuming it hasn't due to the adverse weather.

I quite like the latest news box about the weather today on the BBC Homepage, taking up the area usually used advertising shows etc.

On a day when, remember WE ARE ALL TRAPPED IN OUR HOMES, can you imaigne the whinging of the old farts if they changed the weather site today?

They're already enraged and threatening to change their homepage (oooh) because they got rid of that useless search engine.

I see the weather graphics which did say "New look 2nd Feb" have reverted to "Try it now". I guess it's been delayed until better weather.
