One thing I've been wondering for a while now is what sort of qualifications you have to have to be a BBC local weather forecaster. I was wondering because here in the East Midlands we have an ex-Eastenders actor (Des Coleman) and an ex-local radio DJ (Sally Pepper), plus we used to have an ex-traffic reporter from BBC London (Nicola Beswick), so I'm not sure if they've had to do any sort of qualification/training to get the job?

Good question: When Central East did its Weather Idol competition, they followed Anna Church through her Met Office training course; so I presume the BBC must send its reporters on a similar course?

What happened to Nicola Beswick by the way? I thought she had gone on maternity leave... I guess Sally Pepper must have been lured from Radio Derby to take NB's place permanently?

She did indeed go on maternity leave quite a while back, but it seems like she isn't coming back, unless she's decided to take an extended break and is still planning to return.

Like you said could just be an extended break as Natalie Brooker of South East Today has been off, like with her first baby, for 2 years again.

Also over on CNE anyone know if the weather presenters have been axed already? As havent seen Anna or Lisa for a few weeks now.

Anna Church is doing the weather for Central today. This is the first time I've seen her on there this year.

What I also wanted to say was Sara Thornton has now moved to Look North ( NE ) and is filling the gap left by Trai Anfield who is away. So who does that leave as the team of weather presenters on Anglia ?

Anna Church had been on honeymoon over December I believe. Don't know about Lisa Foden; last I heard, she was on sick leave?

I must say the BBC Weather presenters have had a quiet day today with both BBC Channels sticking with rolling coverage from Washington. But I noticed that some presenters still hold a clicker while presenting the World Forecast.

Has Kate Reeves already departed from ITV Westcountry weather presentation in anticipation of the cutback or have I just not been watching often enough??

Kate Reeves did the weather for ITV Wales last Friday so she may have.

She did the weather for Westcountry and West at lunchtime today. Is she doing all these from Plymouth, or is she doing them from Bristol or Cardiff?

It looks like the old GMG North Weather team at Leeds has been split up, as Granada's Weather is now back at Manchester, with Jo Blythe and Fred Talbot sharing presenting duties.

So I presume it's Jon Mitchell and Kerry Gosney for Yorkshire and the new lady (can't remember her name) for Tyne Tees & Border?

Kate Reeves hasnt done the weather for Wales since to my knowledge - its mainly been Ruth during the week and James at the weekend.

We dont seem to get Charlie or Emma anymore in Wales Sad

Not since the days of Granada Tonight, he just does occassional appearances and the "popular" Where's Fred segment on Granada Reports, so to have him back presenting the Weather is quite a nice surprise. He's said he's probably going to dig the jumpers out aswell.

I'd be interested to know how much ITV regions charge for weather sponsorship these days. I presume the price must have come way down lately, when you consider sponsors always used to be big, prestigious companies like power and water companies. Yorkshire's last sponsor was a curry house, and now a tacky shoe shop.

The Yorkshire Weather is now sponsored by Netto.

One quality sponsor after another!
