Dave +1 would be a bit of a waste of bandwidth, what with the endless repeats on the original chanel anyway (I am a big fan of Dave though). Russia Today would be an interesting addition. It is obviously a terrible channel, but I am still intrigued. I imagine Russia Today, if it actually gets to air, would probably have a two hour slot somewhere.

Dave +1 to join Freeview - Digital Spy
Apparently it'll be launching next week on Channel 25, hopefully like More4 +1 and Film4 +1 it maybe a placeholder until another channel arrives. I like Dave as much as the next person, but considering it's all repeats anyway, I don't agree with if it, if it's a permamnent fixture on DTT.

Well that's a waste of time. Dave, if truth be told, seems to have a schedule of four shows: Top Gear, Speeders, Question of Sport and Dragon's Den. Which are the same episodes aired three times every day. What do they need a +1 for anyway?
Taking Gold out of TUTV and airing it 8am-4am would ideally have been a far better option out of the entire UKTV Channel range. The replacement for UK Documentary (Eden) looks interesting, there's little of its sort of content on Freeview as it stands so that would have been nice.

You'd have thought UKTV would have greater priorities than Dave+1 - launching Watch on Freeview would surely be their best bet as it's a channel which can pretty much showcase content from any UKTV channel. Or reinstating UKTV History to it's full hours.

Russia Today also launching but with "quite restricted" hours. I'm fed up with all these channels which air just an hour or two a day - there should be a minimum of at least six hours a day.

As much as I enjoy watching Dave, there is no need for a +1 channel. Most of the programmes get repeated on the same day anyway! It would have been better if they had given us a new channel like Watch or something like that

Presumably :
1. Dave does good business for UKTV and is widely regarded as a multichannel success story, so a +1 channel may be expected to deliver a good result
2. With UKTV's Freeview channels being non-Pay TV, if they launched a second channel, they would presumably need to buy/pay for different broadcast rights - whereas this is already in place with Dave. (i.e. Dave+1 is a cheaper channel to run on Freeview than Watch - as Watch currently only have to buy Pay-TV rights, not FTA rights?)
3. Slightly allied to 2. but I suspect +1 repeats cost a lot less (or even nothing) compared to repeats shown more widely apart ?

They leave it a bit late - did a rescan this morning and it wasn't there.
It's one thing which annoys me about Freeview - when you get lots of channels launching around the same time you generally have to retune for each channel. Would be much better if things could be timed so minimal retunes were required.
