The pointlessness of UTV's weekend news service was in evidence this lunchtime - from 'Good afternoon' to 'Goodbye' consisted of cursory coverage of two stories and a grand total of 48 SECONDS.

Public service broadcasting? Aye right ....

I did hear that UTV are keen to do a longer late night bulletin - possibly around 20 minutes, but I'm not sure exactly what way they plan to do it or what time.

Was it 48 minutes including reports or just 48 seconds full stop??

It was 48 seconds from the Gillian Porter's first word to her last, including the one report which she voiced-over.

A new low - why do they bother?

I wonder how much time in that junction went over to showing boring trails etc. that could have been spent on the news bulletin. Or maybe they were short on journalists in the newsroom on the early shift. Or maybe they are really winding down, regardless of the outcome of OFCOM's findings.

It sounds like the weather forecast, sponsor stings and Weatherline sting included, lasted as long, or longer, than the actual bulletin, which sounds like a disgrace. I know the UTV weather songs and animation graphics are nice and happy and stuff, but can't they cut them down, and get rid of the pointless Weatherline jingle?

Some tweaks to UTV's Astons today, they now have a new animation and all programmes Astons animate in the same way: UTV Life, UTV Live, Insight (live programme on right now!) They have also all been made larger.

Isn't 'Runner Up' meant to mean something that came second.

Those Astons are more legible I think. And, thankfully, they're still in Helvetica.

Any point in revising the UTV Life ones, though?

As this is the News thread (and as for some reason I can't play back either online), were there any reports on UTV Live or Newsline this evening about the demonstration outside Havoc House today?

Some new straps were in use the other night on UTV Live. They've previously only been used for live two-ways and exclusive stories. Firstly, we had "Breaking News":

Then, "Library Pictures":

And then "Reconstruction":

They then seemed to get so carried away with using them that they used it as a name Aston by mistake!
