The weather pages will be drawn from the new weather index - currently in beta when they go live. I think that will tie in with the launch of the rest of the sites next year but I don't know for certain.

As for travel - that will depend on what happens with the travel index and where the travel news lives in future I guess - don't know as we don't/can't use the travel news content in Jersey.

I guess as much of the regional content is news related it makes sense to move it onto the news server.

The content management system used by the nations/regions was considered difficult to support and add additional functionality to. In the interests of economy, and making things less complex, it was decided to move them to CPS - the news content management system. This decision was made before the reorganisation of nations and regions.

Whether this results in a better suported systems for the regions is yet to be seen. I could see how requests backed by the might and money of News and Sport could well get priority over those from a smaller region - but I may be being overly pessimistic.

To be fair, the decision was part of a wider BBC initiative to slim down the number of content management systems. CMS was being used more widely than just the English Regions sites and I don't really think it was much to do with support/functionality and more to do with two very similar systems being in the BBC.

Although there is a initiative to reduce the number of content management systems, if an existing system is viable on its own then it will be left as is. Topcat (used by BBC WS, BBC Alba and a couple of microsites) is a good example of this.

I've been told the regions CMS was lagging behind the features and functionality found in the more developed systems like CPS, hence the reason to move across and benefit from joint development.

Not really - it could handle items such as embedded media, for example - but the feature was never developed because of the move to CPS. The move was more to do with CPS being the most widely used system of the two.

We can agree to differ on this, but I'm interested where your perspective on this is from? I don't have any axe to grind against either the Regions CMS or CPS, as we have our own system in WS. But having spoken to our representatives in the content management group, I was left with the impression that the Regions were using a system that was way behind the features of other systems and a migration to CPS was the only sensible way to spend money. If that isn't the case, then someone somewhere has got their wires crossed.

Although it has worked out nicely given the restructuring of Regions into News, meaning that the combined Regions Future Media team and FM&T Journalism will eventually only have the one system to support.

Ther have been a few live streams in the examples for under /emp for a few months. Can't remember which channels though, and I can't seem to get access to the emp pages through myconnect portal to check.

R&D were also trialling public multicast distribution of TV channels a few years back, although I don't know what ever came of it.

The live streams look great. Very Happy

Although the DOG is pretty pointless. Surely if you click on the link to watch BBC1 live, then you don't need to be told that you're watching BBC1 on the video itself.
