OK, so this is my first time at doing mocks, i've just played around with the News 24 look. I've only used Paint and the mocks are nowhere near the quality of others on here, but I think the give they general idea of what I'm trying to do!

Studio:

Ok, so the studio would be similar to that of the national news studio,. except the sides would be the same as the back (which would show the real newsroom rather than a fake one. There would be no screens on the side, instead when interviews where taking place a screen would slide down into on of the windows (a bit like the Iraq War thing at the end of the Ten during the conflict). Also this technique would be used for breaking news and special events, either something like the Ten Iraq War thing would be used (in the same place as on the Ten) or the whole studio would change to identify breaking news or some special coverage - such as a war or the budget.

As you can see, it uses the side bar thingy, a bit like, well very like Sky News, but it works so.... . The clock moves up to be under the DOG.

Astons:

The side bar stays on and name aston comes on from the right to meet it, with the name etc already on it. It then slides off again, the whole thing, including side bar.

The LIVE DOG moves up to be next to the clock and the location bar goes underneath (this would also be used for 'Pictures from....' and 'recorded pictures' etc.

The info strap comes on in two parts. The side bar bit from the left and the other bit from the right. If it comes on straight after the name bar (above) its all a bit different. The red bit of the name bar will slide off taking the text with it, thus leaving it just black, then the text appears.

Pretty simply this, the Breaking news strap just slides up from the bottom.

This last one wasn't working on 'Preview' dunno why but it basically just has the 'breaking news' strap at the bottom of the screen.

Thats it, they're nothing amazing, but I figured they only really needed a tweak to look better than they do now. As I have said, I only used Paint so they don't look that good, but i hope you get the idea of them.

The first couple are very good but your live dog is too clustered, while the Breaking News aston would be better above the info.

Like the idea for the studio, but in reality, the BBC would want to recreate the studio as cheaply as possible.

Thanks for the feedback..

I think you are right about it looking tio cluctsered, I will play around with it now I have downloaded some new software - thanks Cheese Head for thr address!

I quite like the Breaking News strap but I can see what your saying, I just thought it would make a change and woulnd't take up so much of the picture and also that it could remain on screem without having to move around when there were different things on screen.

I'm glad you like the studio idea, I wasn't sure if I explained it very well. I do think that News 24 needs a studio that they can play around with and do different things. The present one only has those small screens that they put the Iraq War logo on, I like that idea but it needs to be more obvious. It was kinda lost on those screens.

OK, after having a little trouble getting this all done, I've finally managed to get my improved mocks up. Again nothing amzing, but its really just improving the current look, however I have decided that red and black are not the most interesting colours but anyway here they are:

I've moved the clock, LIVE DOG and Location around to make it less clutered, againt its very Sky News but it works ok.

I'm not sure about the red line, I think it may be better white.

The Breaking News aston has moved to the side bar, it would work like it does at the mo with it changing with the story title:

A new one, I think during the war we all noticed the problems with the current graphics re pictures being Live or recorded and locations etc etc, so here my way of fixing it:

AND:

Obviously there would be a background on the last two but I haven't done up as I couldn't think what to do and it all got a biut complex for my poor brain so....

Also I know the safe areas aren't all there and all that but just pretend they are!

I might have a go at something more original one day but I think I'll need to spend alot more time on them!

Let me know what you think

The whole live and recorded issue is now much clearer. But shock horror, you did not use Gill Sans once. Is this meant to be like this, or did you just forget? Never the less I liked it. What software did you use?

Thanks. I actually couldn't think what font it was meant to be, so sorry about that, I'm actually trying to finish my dissertation and some essays so this was just done quickly during some breaks, so I didn't have time to faff about!

I used a serif piece software but I couldn't get that to post on the forum so I had to copy it in to paint and I did some alterations in that (adding the white lines etc)
