Some it on screen and I do think that they are better than the current idents. Maybe its me, but they do fit in with the show, and incorporate the 2 well. With the creativity with the original heroes, the electric proms, the comedy and now these, I'm just wondering what they'll do for Christmas.

And thinking about it we all seem to have disregarded five, I think that five's presentation is closer to channel 4 than any other network IMO.

Yes I think Five has some very good idents and they have been overlooked but I'm wondering if all of that good work is going to be thrown out the window with their imminent revamp.

As good as the Heroes stings are, companies need to be careful because stars and shows jump channels with such regularity these days that you could spend all of that money on an ident and only show it a few times.

BBC2 still need some new regular idents though and haven't added to the set apart from themed idents, which interestinly haven't followed the window on the world theme.

Sorry but these special idents are dismal. They scream 'trying too hard to be young and fresh and dynamic' instead of 'trying to be simple yet different yet surprising'.

If they have indeed been looking at how C4 do things then they haven't researched properly. The scenes the '4' is placed in may be extravagant but they never take attention away from the key feature: the simple yet so effective form up of the '4'.

In the Heroes idents the '2' is nothing more than an after thought, which leads back to what someone said earlier, does it really need to be a '2' at all or could it easily be replaced by the BBC1 Circle? Until they sort this quite major branding problem out, this rebrand is going nowhere quickly.

Apologies for sounding so negative but these special idents really annoy me. It's not the BBC2 branding I used to know...

And for crying out loud, the '2' is the wrong way round! How that was given the all clear I'll never know. It's Fish Original all over again.

New '2' aside, the Electric Proms symbol is a good example of the far more distinctive style that BBC2 should be taking with the wider set of idents.

For one, it doesn't look anything like what I've seen from the other main channels - entirely CG, the appearing '2' becomes the real focus of the scene - and instead of a soundtrack that feels like an instrumental song, it comes across as a far more bespoke, unique piece of sound design ; with a buildup, followed by a 'hit' of sound for when the '2' forms.

This unique visual and musical approach is what made the Electric Proms ident stand out - it offers something different and stronger.

Some of the idents are, but that's part the reason I don't rate it near the top. Identity is about who you are, not what someone else is like.

Guys Guys, this Ident is more about the programme not just the Channel's Identity, it needs to be different for fans of the show to relate to. eg: 'Omigosh did you see that advert for Milo Ventimiglia'

Here's the capture ^

It would appear these are not idents after all, but promos. That is how they were being used in the junction I saw last night, with one of the normal idents into Charlie Brooker.

And let's face it, they are more plausible as promos.

The '2' appearing so late - in a trail endboard style - was the telltale sign.

But as long as journalists keep calling the previous era 'fluffy 2s' and not caring to differentiate between trails / stings / idents in this way, I'm afraid this sort of confusion will continue! Laughing

No-one appears to have broken the fact that Qi tonight was the "End" of Series E to the BBC2 announcer, since she announced that a "brand-new" ep of Qi was on BBC4. [It's actually the first in Series A]

Thankfully they are. They wouldn't have been able to last as idents because the symbol doesn't appear to the end and it doesn't really promote the channel. Saying that, I don't think they successfully promote Heroes either as it's just a weak idea poorly executed.

Is there any need to promote Heroes anymore? It's on in the same time slot every week and it's too late for people to start watching the series now so I'd say there's no real point in promoting it, other than mentioning it on the ECP and the Tonight graphics.

Do you watch Heroes at all? I don't think this is what these are meant to do, it's just to reinforce it. It's like how ABC always does a special promotion for Desperate Housewives per-season.

And plus, BBC2 is showing Series 2 next. Some people have taken it waay too seriously, I've had a look on fan forums and most people liked them.

I would have watched it but missed the first few episodes by which time I thought it was too late to catch up with and I wouldn't be able to follow what has already gone. It's because of this which I wonder why there is still heavy promotion. If we take Smallville for example (which I do watch) it makes much more sense if you watch them all in order and in particular in later series it's harder to dip in and out of episodes. This doesn't receive constant promotion on E4 yet Heroes does. Both programmes have a set timeslot and a set audience, is there any need to promote so much?

I'm sure these promos may look better if I knew who these people were and what context they're in. However, I still think production wise they look poor.

Oh no! I was going to wait till next week. There was me thinking Hugh Laurie would be back for another ep.
