Here's David Chaters live reaction as the statue was being torn down...

Having seen Rageh Omaar's coverage again in his report, I have to say that he was much much better than David Chaters. David's seemed very flat compared to Rageh's excited tone.

I didn't once watch the BBC's coverage - I'm not stupid enough to put up with their bias and over-hyped performances from most of the BBC's correspondents.

The BBC Coepira (sp?) ident was playing for a good 10 seconds before an announcement was made to say "BBC One now joins a BBC News Special for the latest news from the Iraq war". I assume this was to allow enough time for all regions and nations to flick over to the main London feed.

The Nations wouldn't go back to London for the ident into something like this, just the English regions.

I agree Jamez.. Rageh was very excited as the statue came down, and full credit must go to him for handling the situation well Very Happy

At 9:30pm Sky News are repeating David Chaters fall of Baghdad. So if you missed it, or want some captures from it, you know what to watch.

Is this only the second time network recall has been used (the first being the Queen Mothers death?) or has it been used before that?

I don't know about the BBC, but regions had to finish their opt outs on ITV when the 'War on Terror' started on one Sunday afternoon a few years ago

Anyone catch the James Bays report on five tonight, it was three times. The funniest thing was him running towards the American military with a white handkichief as if he was surrenduring.
Also Marc Jordan is the only reporter to show the other side to the uprising, those that arent supporting the Americans, any other networks covered it.
Finally Kirsty Young was talking to James Bays about the previous Gulf War and said that Bays had worked there. Who did he work for?

Why didn't ITV break their programming to show this? I kept flicking over to see which other terrestrials channels were showing these potentially historic scenes and BBC1 were the only ones that bothered!!

I think he was probably with Independent Radio News back in 1991
