Yes, I saw a bit of Ready, Steady, Cook myself today and was wondering, since it's by far the biggest set revamp the show's ever had. I couldn't even quite figure out the geography of the thing at first - I think the kitchens must now be facing each other rather than side-by-side, although I'm still not sure how they're angled.

I can see why they changed the scoring too - in a close result, I always wondered if they got it right, since it would be easy to miscount.

Still, the whole thing looks a bit like the Lloyd Grossman Masterchef from way-back-when now.

Try Hell's Kitchen with couples. Amusingly there is a small little web ad-style box promotion for this to be found at the bottom of the BBC Cult section pages at least, where the programme name has been fluffed - it reads 'The Restauant'. Looks like basic proofreading is so last year.

Not to mention that cookery in general is already done to death on the main channels. Why not just encourage viewers to join a real cookery class?

It's not like Hells Kitchen though. It's several couples starting restaraunts from scratch.

If anything it sounds more like 'Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares' with a hint of 'The Apprentice'

Ah, The Apprentice. So it IS a derivative format then, except set in a kitchen not a boardroom.

It sounds like it takes bits from several formats, including The Apprentice, Kitchen Nightmares and maybe Hells Kitchen.... but then again show me a new programme that isn't a bit like another one?

There's very little totally original these days

On BBC3 the next day there's a Restaurant spinoff - The Restaurant - You're Fried!

It's exactly the same as The Apprentice almost to the letter.

God why do they think the programme is going to be better if they constantly move the camera left and right?

You can't see whats going on properly as the cameras don't want to keep still!

It's enought to give you motion sickness! Mad

We've just had a special ident for The Restaurant.

Rather dull and boring IMO as it was that porcelain two sat on the side, then a barrage of food was thrown at it for about two or three seconds with the theme music from the promo and then everything stopped. No music and just the Two covered in food sat there. There was no box either this time.

I was expecting a continuous 'stream' of food, but nope. Guess that would have had the anti-food wasting folks annoyed if that'd been done.

This was exactly the same as Heroes' use of logos/caption, even with respect to the Subtitles caption across the Nations. Network used the Gill Sans version constantly on-screen, while NI (and probably the rest) are using the Avenir version that fades in.

EDIT: Why yet another ident missing the BBC TWO logo? The regulars aren't like that, so why all of a sudden can they not be bothered? It just adds to the inconsistency, which there is already enough across BBC brands in general.

I saw it too, and by the looks of it, I'd say that something went wrong with it. It looked as though it had frozen half-way through (this would explain why there wasn't a box).

I don't like these promos, it is such a waste.

Nope, that's just how it is, as the music clearly continued throughout.

I'm just hoping that any new ident that's going to be introduced in the future is better than that Restaurant ident. Infact, all the idents are looking stale on BBC Two now...
