Here in the US CNNI goes over board in covering the stock markets. This afternoon there are so much breaking news to cover (tropical and Hurricane storms, Terror Trials, Elvis) that CNNUS isn't paying that much attention to the stock market. there are updates every 15 mins but they aren't having reports and guess comming in to talk about the markets.
Those outside the US are bless to have international news to their disposal. Can you imagine since the bridge collapse we don't get international news. They cut YWT everyday for press conferences just to tell us the latest failure of the rescue efforts. Only at the bottom of the hour, US related (Iraq), and in the case of Peru, the American whose there. Otherwise, we wouldn't have known nothing from there. It is crazy.

That's somewhat similar to the domestic news channels here in the UK. All it takes is for the Queen to break wind and they've got a Royal correspondent outside Buckingham Palace. OK, so a bit of an exaggeration there...but not by much. To give them their due, though, we do get proper international news each hour, unlike domestic US stations, as you described. Even your main network evening bulletins only feature international stories if they have some connection to the US. At least the BBC/ITN/Sky here do cover all major international stories, not just those with a connection to the UK. However, I still think the best news channel for impartial reporting of truly global events is BBC World. Even CNN International has a US slant.

Thats why everytime I have the chance in my day to watch BBC WORLD I will do. CNNI is so sensational, US focus on most of their stories. BBC WORLD is the only one true global network. All of the world is covered. If there is a UK story that warrant international coverge ( lottery winner, scientific research, Big Ben and the floods) BBC World wil cover it. CNNI covers ever DA--NNNNNNNN US story. Tell me who in the globe knows who Atlanta Quarterback is and the Carl Rove story overplaying it. Bush is such a lime duck president. No one cares in America who is leaving his administration let be it the world. There is always Jeanne Mosse (sp) stories about people who no know in the world besides America. BBC WORLD always prioritized their stories. from the order to the importance and relavence of the story.

The problem with BBC World is that oh my god, it is soooo dull! The presentation harks back to the 70s with old men barking stories at you about Rhodesia and Constantinople. Although the range of stories are very American at times on CNN, at least the thing's watchable with likeable and warm presenters.

The thing is BBC WORLD can't go the direction of CNN. CNN has something like BBC NEWS 24, that is 2 anchors. When you have two anchors you need to have chemistry and personality otherwise people who love that kind of thing wouldn't watch. It is in the channels policy and DNA. People who watch BBC WORLD like me knows what we want and expect. I can't imagine seeing Zeinab and Mike or George and Mishal together going on for 3 hours at a time like CNN.
The other thing is BBC WORLD has a lots of oringinal programs at the bottom of the hour during the week then CNN. Most of BBC World anchors are contempt with the setup. It gives them more grivitize which Nik Gowing craves

I agree with you. CNN has better presenters who all know each other well and work great together. On BBC everything is single anchored.
