*Takes pencil from behind ear* OK so how about this...

Film reel comes from behind the Elvis-shaped thingy...

wraps around the globe...
http://www.leeseaman.com/tvidents/mocks/bbc/news/film24/ideas/2.jpg

forms a red carpet with glass globes lined up at the side, world at the end of the carpet, and film sliding along behind...
http://www.leeseaman.com/tvidents/mocks/bbc/news/film24/ideas/3.jpg

zoom up to the globe at the end of the red carpet, where the (possibly new) logo forms...

Or possibly end up panning down to the red carpet, which I guess could produce a better end shot...

This is assuming I can figure out how on earth I'm going to do it in Carrara. Unless I just cut 2 seconds off the first scene, keep the second scene, and replace the final scene with something along the lines of the above image... endless possibilities, we'll see what I come up with.

Why not drop the globe and let it turn into a glass orb more, I get your idea of it being a light/searchlight but that doesn't come across it just looks like a glowing earth. Try making it brighter and let the earth texture fade off as it animates...

Just out of interest, Lee, how long did this take to render and on what sort of hardware? On my machine I know it would probably take forever, it being the antique that it is.

It takes a while, I'm using an old eMac which really isn't cut out for this, I'm hoping to get something newer soon. There's an art to creating the look you want whilst trying to keep it uncomplicated for rendering. The original mock took only an afternoon, although the shell shape is something I've been trying to perfect for a while.

I'm rendering that last scene (with the red carpet), its going to take a while, even though its set on the near-lowest quality, so I'll leave it overnight. It probably wont come out right, in which case I'll adjust something and start rendering again!

A number of things wrong with this, but I think you get the idea of it.

I'll try to work on it more later.

very impressive Lee. I don't like the font you've used for 'film' but everything else so far is great.

An eMac? Cripes. No, don't tell me it's specs, I figure it's just about able to push that boulder over the hill.

That may be, but its still far more reliable than a PC.

Have they not set up that grumpy gits forum for you yet?

I suggest that you perhaps change the animation by which the film changes to the red carpet. If the carpet faded in (ie appeared while it was fluttering around like the film strip) and laid itself over the film. The font in the logo is horrible. I'd also like to suggest perhaps having some 'BBC NEWS' straps whooshing past the film or around the globe.
