I think that was idea really. They are probably meant to be filmed by someone tagging a 2 shape on to things or people s/he shouldn't be, by spraying them with paint... with a risk of getting caught... hence the urgent/jerky camera work.

That's what I thought on first seeing it too, it's clearly why the frame is so jerky, the man is running out of breath, why he retreats so quickly and why you can see a load of players chasing him in the last frames. Shoddy production values or not, I'm suprised more people didn't pick up on it more quickly.

What disappointed me was the shoddy execution of it.

Yes I'm all for shaking up the junctions a bit with more fun idents but the production of that was really a mess.

It didn't make for a good brand; the 2 was hardly visible and it didn't even stop to show you the 2 sprayed on the football.

The concept itself was a good one but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's still feeling a bit dizzy and nauseous this morning Pale

But that's just my opinion Wink

And to think they paid Abbot Mead Vickers £700,000 of licence payers' money for this concept...

I must admit I haven't taken to this rebrand at all. More extravagant than anything that's gone before, some real howlers like "Chase" and AMV even had the nerve to redraw the 2!

Whilst I'm here, that "Any Dream Will Do" promo also bears the hallmarks of being an expensive agency job. Wonder how much that one stung us, even without without Alan Humphries' dad from Grange Hill saying "dream on!"?

I think this may have been Red Bee's work, not that of AMV. Or perhaps a citizen ident? Hideous all the same.

sorry to dredge this thread up, but the piece of music used during sunroof, was it commissioned especially for that ident or is it a commercial/library track?

it sounds familiar but i can't place anywhere where i've heard it before.

All the music for this package was written by Vince Pope.

IMO it isn't quite as nice as what Tony & Gaynor produced over the years which raised the bar, especially for the classic 2's where the sound reflected the action so well and made it really captivating. It is rather a shame they didn't work on the current set.

As by contrast, I feel the music on Sunroof in particular is one that just doesn't seem to add anything to the whole sequence.

Also, I think while the package has expanded its colour scheme greatly and the idents are visually quite varied, it's lost something.

A large part of that is probably due to the music change, among other things (such as the deliberate alteration of the 2, which I still can't understand, but I shan't go into that again at this time!)

The new ident looks like a Citizen idents and if denton is right in saying they'll be more then dammit, I want to see them!

To me, it's humorous for the basic principle of someone spraying a bright pink 2 onto a football during a game and getting beat for it. Sure, it's not like the old viridian 2s in any sense and as much as I like the current set, I like this a lot and disagree with the idea that it's badly executed. Hits all the points required doesn't it? Uses the "world through 2" idea, the 2 is present all the time and is trying something new. Then again, the logic that says it's not good is highly probable to me to say five's current branding isn't any good either and needs big symbols lest the viewer gets confused.

There was a multi-channel thingy there on BBC2 and the box wasn't squashed Surprised

Mind you, the BBC1 monitor was missing so that might have been why. I hope they have sorted it out though as it looked a bit sloppy before.

So, let's have a run-through of what idents have been seen so far:

  • Chase B (wall)
  • Chase C (hole in the ground)
  • Two Chase stings
  • Mirror and accompanying sting
  • Sunroof and accompanying sting
  • Cappucino A (stir)
  • Cappucino B (sugarlump)
  • Tent A (rock festival)
  • Tent B (polar landscape)
  • (?) Tent C (beach)
  • Seascape and two accompanying stings
  • Zoetrope
  • Zoetrope (cut down)
  • Football (seemingly withdrawn as I haven't seen it since - probably a citizen ident?)

That brings us up to twelve idents not including the short version of Zoetrope. I've still not seen Tent C, has anyone got caps of this? I'm still unsure as to whether the ghastly Football will become a regular ident. And also the elusive fourteenth ident still hasn't appeared...

Eww, ahh, err! That is the WORST ident ever screened on british television since television began! It is not like the BBC to produce shoddy rubbish like that. No wonder BBC TWO has the lowest viewing figures out of the big 5 channels.

[OK five has the lowest figures but I dont watch 2 much and I presumed others didn't, sorry!]

By the way BBC TWO doesn't have the lowest viewing figures, five does,
BBC TWO gets and average of 8.8% of viewers a month whereas five gets about 5.5%
