Can anyone find me a clip of Paper Cutout in action? There is one on Tv-Ark, but it is still, and has about 2 seconds of audio.. Or is that how it was on TV?
No, on TV the 2 was cut-out of the paper to reveal a bluey background. I am sure TV-Ark used to have it but post-site-revamp all they have is that. And the other usual places dont seem to have it... It seems to be even rarer to view than Crystal Ball!
So, are we now saying that 2W actually has now indeed scrapped its own unique style of idents, in favour of merely 2W-ised normal BBC Two idents such as Cappucino? Or what?
By the sounds of it 2W has dropped its own idents; can someone try and explain to me what the point of the brand is now? Surely it would be a lot easier just to call the brand BBC2 Wales all day so there would be no need to produce special trails/idents with two different boxes, wouldnt it?
Well, for as long as Analogue Terrestrial BBC Two Wales still exists, it helps to differenciate the different programme schedule that's on Digital telly (which is what 2W is), to have the different brand. Although I will agree that the loss of unique idents is a shame.
Surely, they could have retained the existing idents, but "flipped" so that the box would now be on the left, in keeping with the normal BBC Two box:

Judging from longer screencap sets, that wouldn't work, since the 2W box is/was live action.& shown at angles, Think trying to flip Sticky Label, only more so.

Nah, it was like that even before the revamp, sadly. Shame, it's the only one I haven't seen. What was the soundtrack like?

Yes that's right, other than some clouds slowly moving across the sky behind the 2, there wasn't any action! I seem to remember it being used as frequently as the other idents in the early days, though I can't remember at what point they dropped it. Pity, it was actually one of my favourites of the original batch!

The soundtrack was a very, very high pitched 'tweeting' melody (instrument could have been the same as that in Sign, but it was so high it sounded flute-like) with light drums tapping continuously in the background.
What you heard in the first 3 seconds was basically how the whole thing went, so quite repetitive! I have it somewhere but the quality is extremely low.
Considering it's age and fairly short use, I imagine it's nigh on impossible anyone will find a version in full Stereo. Unless the Beeb release it as such, of course, but that's just as unlikely!
I think people are missing the point complaining about sunroof being jumpy etc - if it were smooth it would loose the querky feel that all of these idents have in common. The same goes for the music - it has been matched to the mood - some dramatic jingle would be totally out of place. Everyone seems to rant and rave about the 90s two idents but these didn't have dramatic music did they?

Powder, firecracker, silk, optics, steam, are just a few that come to mind

Listen to the soundtracks of Optics and Powder. I consider those to be some of the most dramatic soundtracks. True, a dramatic soundtrack would be out of place on Sunroof, but they could do better than just a car radio.

A bit of shake would be OK, but it shouldn't rotate as it zooms out.
