Well now S4C updates its break bumpers every year, but the idents have also changed this year, after 13 years of the same theme [fire/dragons/everyday objects].

Similar to the tv set style pres from christmas, these idents started on the 3rd.

The tv set flickers from one scene to the next as the view on the wall also changes. Music's a bit non-descript.

From what I have seen, these are also used before sports programming and the news [so no more clock].

Doubtless the last pres look before the English service ceases -- they're not very erm, Welsh?

Would S4C's idents be proably only second to C4's original blocks idents for time on air then?

From the caps I don't get these idents at all - need to see them in full I think.

Never saw any of their Christmas presentation either, completly forgot about it!

They look quite nice - about time S4C updated their idents.

They look nice indeed, but I'm with TVDragon on this one, they don't seem very Welsh to me. Granted I never watch S4C but in terms of their presentation from 1993/5 onwards, there tends to be a large focus on Dragon and fire related ideas which looked good on screen, especially the fact that they never had to do anything to the S4C~ on the bottom right.

Just a quick question, does S4C still use the mosaic for their Schools programmes? Or have they gone down the Channel 4 way.

They look very nice, and original as well.

I would have to see them though.

No "Merry Christmas" message in the TX version. Alternative variants showed either the Christmas Tree or static screens.

Pity S4C have acted like sheep (pun not intended) and dropped the clock. And no, I don't get this new look either.

Ooh - I like that! S4C usually have decent Christmas idents - don't know why I completly forgot about them this year.

Dear oh dear; what a shame if S4C have decided to scrap the clock. I had a feeling it might happen, but hoped we'd still see it for some time yet.

The last I saw of aforementioned clock, was the Xmas version counting up to and past midnight, New Year's Day (was followed by the Anthem accompanied by a short live action 'story' of sorts for the occasion IIRC).

If it's indeed gone, then odd how the Xmas idents followed the new look, yet a specific clock was still seen alongside it.

Also, despite being many years old, I really loved those idents of fire-breathing Dragons from everyday objects, ever since I saw the Standpipe one in action back around 1995.

Now I've seen these new idents in motion and they seem comparatively so poor, don't seem at all Welsh, make no other sense in terms of what they are supposed to represent and are generally very underwhelming, dull, and lacking a strong symbol or theme.

All in all, another disappointment. I don't like the direction most TV pres is heading as of late, with Channel 4 having the only package that consistently impresses. The only good thing I can say about this new S4C lot, is IMO they are better than current ITV1 - but I suppose that's not saying much.

Hi. I hate the new look idents, but i hated the new BBC ONE one's at first but they grew on me. I E-Mailed S4C not long ago about changing the idents and this is the reply i got

We are currently looking at a wholesale overhaul of the S4C
idents which have been around as long as you - 1993! I'll keep you posted as
to when they'll launch - probably early 2007.

Thanks again for your interest

Not a very good relaunch i think if i ever saw one.

I couldn't have put it better myself. What is the underlying theme or message behind these idents? Although I have yet to see them in action, my guess is the only person who knows is the marketing ego who came up with them.

The whole "dragon" series was amazing; Lambie-Nairn at his best and thoroughly nationalistic. What is Welsh about these? Nothing unless you put sheep or daffodils on the TV screens!

To make matters worse (though some might disagree), the S4C logo is the same. It was obviously designed to fit in with the Dragons theme but is now completely out of place. - think Kites with a BBC ONE red box.

Never really seen the channel's presentation before, but that's a really excellent and original ident.

Very understated manner but very Christmassy.

S4C have always "rested" the Dragons theme over Christmas, like BBC1 and the globe. So I read nothing into the Christmas ident, even if I did think "an old VCR, an empty school hall - what's that all about?"

Previously S4C have used CGI boxes in a Christmas tree formation, cartoon stars, close-ups of festive lights and live action footage from a school nativity (that would fall foul of political correctness nowadays!)
