[quote="c@t"]Two points that I don't think have yet been picked up on:

Why are ITV branding Philip Reay Smith as "the first reporter in Iraq"? For a start, he plainly was not the first reporter in Iraq... there have been people there for weeks, months and years.

Secondly, he was not even the first reporter in Southern Iraq (which I believe is what they are getting at). He delivered his first dispatch during the 11 O'clock ITV News, when ITV put the caption "first in Iraq" up... but Colin Brazier from Sky had reported travelling over the Iraqi border at just past 8 O'clock that evening, so ITV are obviously getting their wires crossed or - surely not! - talking bull.

All sounds like just a bit of 'talking up' going on - he may be the first to a certain place. Also I had a feeling that Philip Reay Smith is a pool reporter anyway.

Lots of talking up going on. BTW - Are Sky and ITN also crediting MoD video when it is used as the BBC are? Though I think it is difficult for News 24 to do this when run as wallpaper floats on interviews, the main BBC News bulletins, especially the Ten lat night, have been very careful to attribute this material.

Philip Reay Smith's pool reports have been on Sky News, as have Bill Nealys.

CBS and FOX are using David Chater, Ive normally seen FOX just relaying Sky News two-way interviews with him but CBS's Dan Rather has had 2 ways with him. After his report today, I certainly dont think Iraq will kick him out and i certainly dont think this report will be on FOX. Basically it showed alot of footage from the hospitals including new born babies whos incubater power supplies (or something like that) have been damaged and an interview with Iraqs health minister. He obviously couldn't and didn't say that these people in hospital might not have been injured in the bombing or that it could be Iraqi propaganda.

Im told that "Aaj Tak!" Hindi news channel in India are showing Sky News as are STAR.

I like General Tommy Franks comments: "Theres a hell of lot of you BBC guys here" - or something to that effect, after another question from a BBC Reporter. Very Happy Wink
