What is the point of having a different logo on the plasma screens to the logo seen in the titles and on the set?
After looking at it again, I think the font used on the backdrop is just a bold version of the one on the plasmas. All the letters look the same shape, just a bit thicker.

Also, was Susie Millar's piece to camera in her report transmitted in the correct aspect ratio?
No Col, it wasn't. Not sure what it's called but it had black bars down either side (the same way ITV News is broadcast on digital)

The "live" in the backdrop is Helvetica Black from the looks of it, while the new plasma logo uses either AvantGarde Book or Bold, not sure which.
Has anyone been having problems downloading the BBC Newsline 18.30 RealPlayer stream on BBCi? I haven't been able to play the show for the past few nights...
Did spot though that Rose was wearing her poppy last night, no poppies as yet at Havelock House, are they waiting until next week?

The stream off the BBC News site has been hidden as it's not broadband and they don't like it not to be available as such. I've tried it off the BBC Newsline page and it's going fine!
However, things should change come December when something new appears...

I seem to recall this article from 2004...
Members of staff at UTV have been told by bosses that they are not to wear the Remembrance Day flower until Sunday, November 7. They will then be allowed to display the poppy until Remembrance Sunday.
It was reported that presenters, such as Lynda Bryans and Letitia Gwynne, were ordered to remove their poppies this week before going on air. This is in contrast to BBC presenters, who have been wearing the emblem on screen this week.
Is this still the case at UTV? Or have they finally seen sense?
That would have made for a nice IVC backdrop... if only Gillian did IVC...
Interesting to see UTV have two of their journalists over in London for the meeting with Gordon Brown story.
Also a thought - instead of a phone interview with David Healy in Leeds, couldn't they have got him into the Calendar newsroom to do a two-way?
EDIT: Also remembered, Graham Little was drafted in for UTV Live sofa/weather duties tonight - Frank's first day off since moving studio I think.
And on that thought, is there any reason why Pamela never does weather bulletins? I don't think I have seen her do the weather since the start of UTV Life to date.
I see the poppies are being worn today, but nobody seems to have told them that if you wear the green bit it goes see-through when they're in front of a CSO backdrop! Aidan was wearing one earlier when he read the UTV News bulletins and now Julian is wearing one, both of whom have the leaf still on. At least ITV News were sensible enough to detach them...

Ironically, ITV News made that mistake for the first year of the "theatre of news", where you could see the CSO backdrop on the green leaf and stem of the poppy.
Just watched back Thursday and Friday's UTV Live online - was it just me or did the "old" UTV Live plasma graphic make a few appearance on Paul's side on Thursday? Letitia Gwynne made a comeback appearance on Thursday too.
