Hi guys!

Unfortunately I can't guarantee compatibility with a pre-release OS which is rapidly being succeeded by newer builds - if you haven't yet, try running it in compatibility mode to see if things go any better.

I'm the one that should be saying sorry - I'm looking into this to see what else is potentially causing conflict.

The settings menu will return in the next version, but will be updated to work as intended and add new functionality.
I'm working on some reliability tweaks now - it's a little buggy because it has some timings as a hangover from the older, longer TOTH so on occassions it isn't finishing downloading and parsing the RSS before it rattles off into the main event before realising it isn't actually ready to do anything.

I've also noticed (fairly) recently the Beeb added a new RSS feed of the most recently published stories. I'm looking into incorporating this into the screensaver in the next version so that when it detects a new published story it can get all flashy and red and dramatic.

Version 0.2.7 has been released
To download and install this update, run Sky Newsbreak and follow the instructions.

Changes in this version:
* TOTH timings altered
* Changes to update backend
* Video re-encoded in MPEG1 for better compatibility

I've been having some DNS problems with my site and blueyonder recently, which has made it hard to check for sure if this update is working properly - if you have been suffering from video playback bugs in recent versions, please let me know if this fixes your issues.

My apologies about that last build - it introduced a nasty bug which stopped the screensaver from starting properly. A follow-up build (0.21) has just been pushed. If you already installed 0.2 you may need to manually launch Newsbreak to let the auto-updater do its thing.
As a temporary fix, exiting the screensaver has become slightly more cumbersome - and will require you to click through a second screen - fixing this is my current priority.

Installed 0.21, the ticker is much smoother now thanks to the piority increase, but the main part is broken! After TOTH the main screen goes white and nothing else happens.

i'm really fed up with this now! i still can't get the new toth, the music is there, but no vid. when will you release the bbc version?

Is this happening every time you run it? I ask because I have had this bug appear from time to time before, and it usually seems to be because of timings being thrown off course occasionally.


I've looked into this as much as I can, but I haven't been able to reproduce this. My final suggestion would be to check if you have any conflicting codecs. Have you installed any third party codec packs? These often bundle together various outdated versions which can conflict with other ones installed later. Or, do you have the ffdshow decoder installed? If this has priority, it may be taking over the decoding from XviD, but it might not be configured correctly.
I did make some progress on the BBC N24 version when I first announced it, but it was put on hiatus since. This is something I'd still like to revisit and complete.

Since installing 0.21, yes. It's never happened before. The ticker stays on the latest patch message.

Do you need to have patch 0.2 before you install 0.21? I say this because I'm having a few problems when running it (just goes to a white screen after the TOTH).

If you do need 0.2, do you by any chance have a link to that patch?
