Have we settled this one then ?

Nicks Christmas card says Dineage, but Joe Havard and the internet seem to think Dinenage.

I can't settle until I know.

Nick had a Christmas card off him? Lucky swine.

Can't find it spelt any other way, so we can safely say there is a second N.

Then might I siggest a pair of spectacles?

Google gives you "about 1,040" results for "Fred Dineage".

Compared to the 837 who've spelt it with an "n" I'd be wondering who's the moron, Joe.

Any chance on getting back on topic - a potentially good thread has been ruined by an unwanted lesson in spelling!

National news speaking all the main BBC1 newsreaders are relatively new, with Huw being the longest serving host with a regular role - and that's only since 1999.

It be Jeremy Paxman for BBC2 - no idea when he began though, while for C4 it be Jon Snow, though he was with ITN on ITV in the eighties.

Alastair Stewart has only been back in the national picture in the last few years, while Nicholas Owen has been doing bits and pieces for ITV for as long as I can remember.

As for the women on flagship bulletins - it's Kirsty, though which one. Was Kirsty Wark on Newsnight before Kirsty Young launched 5 News in 1997?

Sorry Nick, I'm with Joe on this one - a couple of pieces of evidence from Amazon

Plus I have a Real Player clip of a World of Sport credits sequence spelling it as Dinenage, but I'm not able to extract a still at the moment...

How long has Katie Derham been at ITV News, probably around 1997 as well?

Forgot about her - I think she was around but mainly as a reporter. It wasn't until the 1999 revamp she had a prominent newsreading role, generally hosting the Weekend News and standing in on the Nightly News.
