So, I had some new ideas for a refreshed BBC News look... So, I decided to break out the graphics software to knock these up.
Titles
The idea for these is based on the image that appears on the plasma on the BBC World set - a design based on the design and colours of the newsroom. So, using that as the basis, I've tried to integrate the newsroom with the current ribbons and globe icon.

Screen Furniture
Completely rejigged graphics, which although continue in a similar vein to the current and recent BBC News graphics, are also quite different, stretching right across the screen.
BBC World will now have a much smaller DOG, complemented by a markets ticker (a la CNN International).

On weekends, the markets bar would be replaced by a weather bar, revealing temperatures......

...then forecast.

Over on BBC News 24, there would simply be a larger DOG. Note that the ticker topic bar would be at times replaced by the time and date - and these would rotate periodically with the ticker topic, rather than stay on screen full time.

Astons
These astons now stretch right across the screen, with a version of the BBC News globe and ribbons icon animating behind the DOG and information on the left hand side of the screen.

World Schedule
All these changes would culminate with a revamp of BBC World's output. Taking the slogan, "Putting News First", and putting it into action. I've tried to put in more rolling news coverage, and an enhanced evening schedule for Europe.
0500-0800 GMT: The World Today
Three hours of rolling news, business, sport and weather from the BBC. World Business Report and Sports Today are fully absorbed into this rolling format. It's co-anchored now - without the need for a dedicated business presenter, they become another news presenter.
0800: BBC News from BBC World
0830: Other Programming - eg. Earth Report, Click Online
0900: BBC News from BBC World
0930: HardTalk
1000: BBC News from BBC World

1500: BBC News from BBC World
1530: Asia Today
1600: BBC News from BBC World
1630: HardTalk
1700: The World
There will now be two editions of "The World" - both live, and now for one hour long (although viewers on BBC Four would still only see the first half hour of the 2000 programme). This new look "The World" would still have longer form reports, but would also include more regular news coverage (particularly in the second half hour), with world business and sports news.
1800: BBC News from BBC World
1830: World Business Report - co-presented from London and New York
1900: BBC News from BBC World
1930: HardTalk
2000: The World
2100: BBC News from BBC World

The overnight hours (0000-0500) would continue as they do now, with Asia receiving Asia Business Report and Asia Today, along with edited versions of WBR and now also Sport Today, with the rest of the world receiving other programming (jncluding replays of WBR, Sport Today and Asia Today) in the second half of each hour.
Weekend schedules would also remain mostly unchanged, although given the amount of sport that takes place over the weekend, there would be new Sport Today weekend editions introduced into the schedule.
