Ive just caught the Mid morning bulletin from HTV and unsuprisingly Andrew Jones presented it. Guess he did GMTV again then. LOL he just smiled at the end of the bulletin - maybe he is improving at long last.

At least only one more day of him tomorrow before Sall smiles at us for the rest of the week Wink

TBH Ive never really been all that keen on Sally - she is OK and 100 times better than Andrew but she isnt that cheerful when she's on either.

I think Sally is one of HTV's longest serving newsreaders - she was News editor of the 6pm programme for ages, then reappeared on the GMTV bulletins. Jonathan I think is the longest serving newsreader having been around since 1993, Steve and Sally came in 1993 also and Lucy around 1995.

You are right she is much better and in my oppinion far nicer to look at Wink To be honest though I don't think it's the kind of job where they can smile too often anyway or people would think they are being condescending.

Well I think by far the best looking is Juliet followed by Justina, then Lucy and Tara. Sally is OK but not my type. I dont know what people see in Ruth - I know TV D thinks she looks nicer than Justina but I cant see it myself.

I suppose Jonathan is the best looking male on the news - well there isnt really anyone else as the others are all mingers. I think James who does the weather is nice.

I dont think they should be too happy eps on the serious storys but they should be pleasant and smile at the start and end of the bulletin, and on lighter storys.
Maybe Andrew and Sally are miserable cos its first thing in the morning when they are on. We should gte Justina as she does one day a week I think on GMTV, she popped up on the mid afternoon bulletin yesterday and I had hoped she might do the 6pm with Jonathan.

Anyway I got the TV Guide for next week today and ive noticed over the last few months, HTV Wales local programmes are very slack lately. Nothing at all on Saturday (as usual) and on Monday and Wednesday.

Sunday : 12.30pm Soccer Sunday, 2pm Waterfront, 5.30pmCoast to Coast
Tues : 11.15pm Soccer Special (1 hr)
Thurs : 2.30pm Prized Possesions, 7.30pm Wales this Week, 11.30pm Creative Road
Fri : 2.30pm Making it and 11.30pm Shotgun Slideshow

which when you add the HTV News at 6pm to it gives a total of 7 hrs 30 mins and I suppose if you add the smaller bulletins to it you would get it to 10 hrs maybe.

And you won't hear anyone arguing with you about Catherine Evan-Williams winning the HTV Sour Cow award..

LOL I was bored so have been reading through this thread and this comment made me laugh TV D - the pic of Catherine in my sig, she does look miserable on there doesnt she - Do you have one with her smiling (silly question!) ? If not maybe I will replace her with Justina!

I'm suspecting this Williams guy that Catherine Evans married isn't really the joy and happiness the initial relationship promised -- she wasn't that miserable before.. Surely the producers need to have a word.

That comment made me laugh too - you are so funny! Its true I dont remember our Cath being so unhappy before she got married.

Have to be careful with this Sour Cow business, since apparently it's not constructive criticism. But then again, I never meant it to be, LOL. I don't have a cheerful pic of Catherine Zeta Evan Douglas Williams I'm afraid. I made little pics of the news reading team, since I was at something of a loose end the whole of yesterday.

We can do
http://members.lycos.co.uk/tindragon/HTVCath1.JPG Grumpy Catherine
http://members.lycos.co.uk/tindragon/HTVCath2.JPG Grumpy Catherine with hat
http://members.lycos.co.uk/tindragon/HTVCath3.JPG or Grumpy Catherine with windy hair

It's amazing how the women, apart from Lucy and Juliet, hardly smile! Then the news isn't usually that cheerful in Wales, except at the end of the main bulletin.

I'll put a Justina and a Lucy -- she looks ok in this one. Not sure if maybe I can rustle up a James Wright. But it's not as if he does any news reading. He just points and says very *general* things about the weather, which are so non-specific, he can never be wrong..

OMG that pic of Catherine with the funny hair is sooooo funny! And she always wears that silly scarf

Im watching HTV News at the moment - just gone to ads.

The lovely Justina just did a report on the Cardiff being the drinking capital of the UK! And I thought it was Swansea Very Happy

The main story was a body being found on Snowdon - I once walked up there myself.

And Coro St was mentioned - there was a power surge last night after the 8.30pm episode.

Lee Waters did a report - he has a strong Welsh accent doesnt he - not sure what to make of him. He seems OK but doesnt read the news AFAIK. Richard Morgan did a report from the newsroom - he is quite good so why we have Horseworthy, Mcteer and Andrew "duller than dead" Jones I dont know!

Oh and Lucy's hair looks terrible on tonights bulletin. Very Happy

I shared my time between Home & Away, HTV News and the bad HTV News. They must have said about 5 or 6 times in the West [or 'Westcountry' as they wrongly call themselves], that something was given to HTV, or someone won't talk to HTV and something that was shown on HTV. It seems the West don't care at all about using the name over and over, no regard for any "ITV1". Wales mention HTV sometimes as well, quite rightly so -- they make the news, but still a fair share of "ITV1 Wales" as well.. Confused

Bad HTV News really is bad. They are good at their jobs, but you can only work with what you've got. Jenny said at the end, "We'll be back tomorrow, so.. hope you'll be there.." All slowly, without believing for a moment anyone will be back tomorrow at all..

Theirs is still an © HTV News Production, no mention of Carlton [seems the West is much more resistent to ITV1 and Carlton than Wales, which surprises me], and they have a news stories hotline -- somethine Wales doesn't bother with. They also have a check on the regions motorways at the end. All 2 of them. But then Wales has only one, so I can't be that rude.. And their pretend widescreen-ness also, it's not washing. I remember in 2001, HTV News had THREE different looks and again has been on this new one since then. And they have *all* been awful. This tacky turquoise and blue and pink is just *ugh*. No wonder no-one watches.

And if you're criticising Lucy's hair, then you clearly didn't see Jenny's. [Or her make up..] Ok, I'll stop now before I get into trouble again.

Weather in the West was Charlie Neil.

It's a travesty how that guy was left to die on Snowdon, incredible. And Justina and Tara both did reports this evening, but were out-of-vision, as usual. I think Lee Walters probably comes from the valleys somewhere, Bridgend, Rhondda etc. But not Merthyr -- he doesn't sound THAT common.. Wink

James" the weather is dull and so am I" Wright did the weather forcast for Wales. I still think he's cute though! Embarassed

Lucy's hair didnt look to bad at the end of the programme - maybe she gave it a quick brush when Jonathan was reading LOL

Have you noticed that when Jonathan speaks and Lucy can be seen too she looks at him and nods to herself. LOL I cant remember her accent when she first came to HTV? Was it really Welsh then?

I must admit I flicked over to the HTV West news at 3pm (Jonathan presented Wales News at 3pm today btw so goodness knows why Justina was brought in specially yesterday?) and Jenny Hull presented that too - Sherrie Eugene was much better than her. Emma Jesson did the mid afternoon weather on West.

And Lee Walters - yes maybe he is from Bridgend - he isnt too bad actually - but as he is the polical reporter doing reports for Waterfront as well as HTV News I doubt he will ever read the news - Remember years ago Jo Kiernan read the news but now she doesnt as she is a political reporter or editor or whatever.

Carole Green also did a report tonight - her voice annoys me! No sign of "Sour Catherine Evan Zeta Jones Williams" - probably got a few days off as she did the weekend shift

I was wondering what HTV News viewers would like to change about the programme if they had a chance too.

Obviously I would like to give the programme a completely new look with a new set and titles etc. But I would also like to make changes to the presenters on the various bulletins.

I would get rid of Andrew Jones for a start and have Justina and Sally do the GMTV bulletins and also the lunchtime news - maybe Sally Mon-Wed and Justina on Thurs/Fri. Justina would also do reporting.

I would also have Juliet appear on the 6pm programme more - maybe have Juliet and Lucy share the female anchor role. Jonathan would remain the male anchor with Tara and Steve filling in occasionally. One of the 6pm presenters would do the mid afternoon 3pm bulletin as well

The late news would sometimes be done by Jonathan/Juliet/Lucy but mostly someone different would be brought in - Tara, Steve, Ruth Wignell maybe.

The weekend news would be done on a rota - Catherine, Justina, Sally, Steve, Giles Smith, Tara, Ruth, Carole would all be on the rota.

As for the reporters I would get rid of Nosworthy and Mcteer and have Cath Evan-Williams as the chief reporter. Most of the other reporters would remain.

Ruth would go back to the news full time, doing the late news and weekends on occasions. James, Emma, Jo Rice and Charlie would do the weather!

Anyone else got any ideas?
