Okay... This is one of the more comprehensive mocks I've done in a while. It's for a new look Sky News - and is based around a lot of the rumours and comments we've seen here on TV Forum. I'll just post a few images here - but there are 12 in the series, and I've posted the full collection to Media Spy (yes... I admit it... blatant cross promotion Wink ).

Feel free to post your comments here or over there - I would like to see what you think though. They may seem a bit OTT - I suspect the new Sky look will be, given that there's been reportedly some American inspiration for the new studio - that may translate into some ideas for the graphics being imported from across the Atlantic as well.

I really like these - I think you've got the balance right. They're not too OTT, but they are also very bold and suit Sky News very well. Good job!!

I particularly like your "comment" caption - it looks really pleasing on the eye.

My only niggle is that the headline strap would have to disappear to make way for the Live graphic - is there not some way they could appear on-screen together? The other thing is that although the two-line strap changes to red for breaking news, there is no "Breaking News" caption - which might seem clear, but I don't think the average viewer would notice the difference or realise what this means.

Indeed - both those points you've raised were built into the graphics set I created... However given that there are so many different elements involved, it appears I have forgotten to demonstrate these. So, here's an additional image:

1) The "Breaking News" headline strap:
The strap is slightly redder - and like BBC News, the text alternates here between "BREAKING NEWS" and whatever the headline for the story is. The idea is for these graphics to be completely animated - so in this case, the bar itself would simply flip around the horizontal axis between these two items.

2) The Live/Headline strap:
The LIVE graphic simply hides a bit of the headline strap underneath. Admittedly, the location is not permanently on screen - but then really, I'm not sure it even needs to be. BBC World manages without doing that. CNN doesn't do it either. The headline strap would simply slide off to reveal the location occasionally, before sliding back on.

I don't like the big bulky glassy effect that a number of people have been using recently, but the first image you posted as well as the backgrounds behind the full screen graphics look really nice.

Not my cup of tea but still very good work!

Nice collection; the only thing that immediately caught my eye that I think would cause a mess on-screen is the transparency of the clock/active aston - I don't think scrolling text behind a clock looks neat.

Otherwise bulky, but good!

Yes, very good. I like the centred style of aston.

They look similar to NDTV (Indian rolling news channel) current colour scheme, as I saw a report on the countries sudden burst of 24 hour news stations about a year ago.

What software did you use?

Thanks for the comments. For the record, they're not exactly my cup of tea either... I generally prefer simpler designs, and I don't like centered astons. These are based on some of the things we've seen and heard around here, and are deliberately designed to be a bit more tabloidy and American in inspiration... Rest assured - I've not lost my mind completely, and do prefer what might broadly be described as the European approach to news graphics. Wink

Sorry - video mocks are not something I do.
