NW
Well the old thread appears to have been archived, plus I feel this is more suited to The Newsroom rather than the main TVF. Again Channel M News has moved, when it started, it was based at the Triangle, then in January it moved across the street to The Printworks, now again it has moved across the street to the Urbis centre, but this made me wonder why it keeps moving.
Well North West Tonight explained it tonight, and rather oddly it appears to the only RSL that has recieved a loan from Tax payers money. It appears that Channel M has been given a £750,000 loan to relocate to Urbis, for five years where they will be given a refurbished room, which has become the studio, the loan has got no interest rate and they get to keep the studio once it has been paid off. Much to the annoyance of North West Tonight. Though I'm intrigued whether this secures the show's future, that could be around in five years, but apparently Guardian Media Group are planning to invest more into the channel.
Anyway, the show has been a bit poor this week, as we've lost the view of Manchester, we now have a glass wall of the urbis, which looks like the Five News studio they were in for 2 weeks a couple of years ago. Plus there's no Andy Crane this week, it's Becky Want, who isn't the best presenter ever.
EDIT:
It appears that Guardian are making a long term investment into the channel, which can only be a good thing, and hopefully a service that will improve.

Sky Digital Online posted:
Guardian's Channel M TV to launch on Sky
Aug 04, 2005 11:01 AM
Guardian Media Group is to launch its Manchester based Channel M TV on Sky Digital next year as part of a major programme of expansion.
The station, which has long-standing ties with the Manchester Evening News, GMG’s regional title in the city, is expected to beef up its commercial team ahead of the launch on the Sky platform.
GMG is said to have made a “significant investment” in the station as part of its long term development plans and bosses are looking to move what is being billed as an “exciting new phase”.
The channel is currently broadcast on NTL.
Launched in January 2000, Channel M was the first significant foray into TV broadcasting by the traditionally press and radio-based GMG.
Current programming includes imports from overseas and some material produced by local university and college students.
The revamped station is expected to have live shows, a breakfast programme and sport and entertainment programmes created for the Greater Manchester area.
Mark Dodson, chief executive of Channel M, said: "Over the past five years, we have developed the station to the city's most comprehensive TV source of up-to the-minute news and information that we know, really matters to people living and working in the Manchester city region."
