i have been busy on this rainy afternoon making some graphics for RTE News Channel, if one was to be launched. At the moment i dont really like the graphics, but i didnt change the style, they are almost the same, but i still like them. hope you do too

The On-screen clock/ DOG.

The Presenter Name Aston, same idea as the BBC News 24 style.

Here is the aston used otherwise.

the ticker used for added infomation

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/rtenews_info.jpg
the info bar which displays info while people are talking/during reports ect ect.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/rtenews_breakingnews.jpg
the breaking news bar. i didnt choose a red becouse it didnt suit the scheme that rte have in place, and would look wrong onscreen. I tried and orange but it looked very informal.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/rtenews_sidebar.jpg
the sidebar

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/rtenews_sidewithaston.jpg
the sidebar with the presenters name, used for news summeries that may be quite quick and require as much time as possible

and this is an example of the rte news channel on a very busy day!

I like it. Well done. RTÉ should have it's own news channel. I watch Sky News Ireland here on Sky Active, but it's awful.

Very Happy Wow, great job! I'm loving all of those graphics especially the picture windows. They're brilliant. Now who says picture windows don't work in 16:9!? If you imagine the 'bars' going over and back and all that jazz in the picture windows, they'd be fantastic. Wouldn't it be brilliant if RTÉ revised it's current graphics to look like that when they go 16:9!

Wow, that's really nice! And i widescreen too.

thanks everyone for the comments!

i have been working on this studio for quite a while, trying to keep the same type of idea RTE has going (the wood), so i created this studio. The desk i made was actually for one of my election studio trials, and it didnt fit in too well.

my idea is, RTE have a breakfast news show, from 7-9:30 (9:30-1pm will be like an ITV Day type of set up), this would be presented on both RTE One and RTE News Channel (which i might add will be on from 6:00am to middnight)
the breakfast news show would be presented from a sofa set, with a smaller version of the desk used on the other news shows. This news studio would also be used for the one o clock news and up to 3pm on the news channel. Then it would be moved out of the way and the other desk is moved in, while the news is being presented form a CSO studio or there would be a news discussion programme ect on.

anyway here is the pics!

the shot with both presenters in

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/studio/rtestudiosofa_right.jpg
the right of the sofa possibly used for sport and guests

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/studio/rtestudiosofa_left.jpg
this side would be used for business, becouse of the screen which would display infomation. this is also a guest part of the sofa

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/studio/rtestudiosofa_close.jpg
the closing shot of the studio

my idea would be that the news updates come from the newsroom itself not from the studio.

*********
now to the studio with the desk
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/studio/rtestudio_six_desk.jpg
the middle screen will show the main story and the 2 at the side would show a faint image of the same story but from a differnt angle (ie. london bombs, middle would be the story headline, the two on the side would be the bus another the train ect).

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/nightly_james/tv%20stuff/rte%20news%20graphics/studio/rtestudio_six_sport.jpg
goin to the sport which would be presented with the gallery in the background, and the screen for sidebars

and finally the 9 o clock news would be presented from the side of the desk where the 6.1 sport is presented from.

comments and sugestions welcome

These are all really really brill! I hope someone in RTÉ sees this. The current output is such a mess. The studio is far too small. The mocks above demonstrate a state of the art operation which can be reused on multiple channels. Excellent work!

The backdrop used does give the impression the news studio is on the board walk.

I love the idea of news studios have "windows on the world" akin to that of NBC News in New York City. I'd love to see even Ireland AM broadcast from the city center, say even those empy buildings near redz on westmoreland street. The shots of the busy street behind would be amazing, not to mention increased interest from people who want to get on TV waving in the window.
