It was the headline sequence. Calendar haven't had a proper headline sequence for years.
Previously we got the full opening titles, followed by some headlines and then straight into the first story. Now we get that stood up intro, followed by the titles as far as the sting (like some other regions do which personally I don't like, you're left holding on for the end of the music), the headlines and then the sting (which read 'Calendar News' I presume in error tonight'
As others have said they are making good use out of the studio with loads of different shots and various combinations of standing up and sitting down (do London Tonight do the standing up?). That front plasma is a good idea. Not quite sure about the generic 4 squares on the main large one. Christine looked a bit uncomfortable turning round and putting her knee on the sofa to do that interview. They do have some sort of skyline view but are hardly using it instead using the screen to illustrate the story.
