Actually I have done more mocks, but I don't think they're good enough to share. Wink I came up with an idea that the Beeb should make an ident for BBC One with a Caribbean theme. I'm hopeless at images, so with my trusty Yamaha PSS-790 I arranged the music for it. It uses the existing signature melody to a lively hi-life rhythm (the basic factory rhythm for the keyboard that I developed to add texture to the mock) with two part accompanyment (marimba and orchestra hit) to give a little more of a Caribbean flare to it (and to make up for steel drums). It does sound amateurish but I hope you enjoy it anyway. Let me know what you think, how it can be improved etc.

Arrow BBC One mock ident music (Hi-Life)

By the way, sorry about the bad quality - I had to use the microphone jack on my computer and it seems prone to interference.

The download speed off your site is 1kb/sec.

I'm sorry, but you're just not worth the effort.

Worked fine for me.

Intresting, the BBC One theme seems a bit fast for my liking. It is good and well done, but just not my thing. There's too much of an "intro" before it gets going, and too sort, why not re-jig it and make it about 30/50 seconds long,

But well done, more than I could do.

Too fast? It's only 128bpm, I'm sure the likes of Salsa and Festival are faster than that. The intro can easily go. Perhaps I could improvise like what the trumpeter does in Salsa? That would at least make it run a bit longer. Orch hit will do nicely in place of a steel drum.

Many thanks for the comments, I appreciate them. Smile

Hmm... now how did that happen? Anyway I'll be sure to compress the next one a bit more, if there is one. Thanks for the heads up.

There's a few mistakes in it :s

Also - Try connecting your keyboard/synth to the Line In port, it then won't get interferance.

I did that Confused but no matter which way I turned the cable I still get extremely bad quality. Ironically, it might be better if I *had* used a microphone.

From what I can hear the notes should be
D F# A A F# E D E F# D E
D F# D E D B D D

Instead on the Last line instead of hitting that B, you hit an C# and then two Ds
The notes really clash and don't sound great - it then cuts off too quickly at the end of the music. Prehaps at the end of the music you could continue what you were playing in the introduction and then fade out.

Buy a new cable or connect your Keyboard to a MIDI interface and do it all through a Sequencing program like Cubase.

Hiya, you say you've done some more... I'd love to hear them, even if they're not as good. I really like this! Not sure about 'mistakes' as such. If you've watched Amadeus you'll see Salieri telling Mozart he has 'too many notes'. Bah! A good clash never goes amiss in music if it's well timed and stylishly resolved - something achieved perfectly, I feel, in this extract.

Has a real feeling of rhythm and life - the clashing of some notes gives the music some vitality and a strong, flowing feeling.

So, can we hear more?!
