A lot of pictures, so do bear with me.

Well, the Midlander of The Year 2002 award ceremony was shown last night on Central.

well kay has done some great lunctimes this week - (didnt the breakfast presenter always do the lunchtime bulletin too until recently?)

anyway - her intro to the turd story yesterday was brilliant - and she did a nice intro to a valentines feature today ...

ooh, interesting framing

valentines treat or what!

there was also a nice mistake at the end - they were waiting to opt back into the network - but the hold on the titles was just not long enough! so we were treated to about 10 seconds of the pulsating hold, then a black screen with numbers on. sadly i didnt manage to tape it, its not often you see all of the title's hold.

when the numbers came on, after a few seconds they crashed into the end of the BBC three trailer.

Well, Central News have decamped out of their studio - and to an interesting place...

The virtual studio. It seems they're being daring - and are producing the whole 6.00 show from there.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jamesison/dtt/cap5/cap208.jpg

Pretty unobvious - apart from the faked desk, and the fact that it is higher up than usual.

Also, the 5.30 preview ended with the nice big screen graphic:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jamesison/dtt/cap5/cap214.jpg

Will be interesting how they get on with the 6.00 show as the studio is absolutely tiny. Very few shots I'd imagine.

I did not have a clue it was in the virtual, and because bob hall was outside, and the end had images of the new look, it wasnt at all obvious! and for the nice image, I thought they were just using it to use it before it goes... Great!

An excellent Central News. The sofa (or part of it) was lifted from the actual studio - but the desk and background was all completely virtual. Even the most earnest tv anorak would be pushed to find a difference...shows a virtual studio setup can be done and look convincing.

Also, Jo reduced Bob to giggling after she said that Bob had told her he was wearing his valentines thong, during the break:

Bob Hall was at the Britannia Stadium in Stoke:

Bob and Jo remind viewers there is a new look on Monday...leading into the preview:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jamesison/dtt/cap5/cap290.jpg

Finally, the only cockup of the programme:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jamesison/dtt/cap5/cap291.jpg

Hardly major, and a fantastic programme considering they were in the tiny virtual studio.

Now, I'm sure you were all wondering what the new look preview was. Well - nothing new really...just the new Central News logo "projected" onto the landmarks that you've seen before (apart from one I think) - so I'll just leave the video (and mp3) to explain.

Contains a lengthy piece of the new music:

i really like it (the music i mean)!! its a very very clever bit of brand building i think - a natural progression on from the current theme - not a clean slate.

it sounds like the show is aiming to be a friendly, but worthwhile news service, with charisma and a bit of panache - im all for it!

the music is reminiscent of the old itv schools on channel 4 music (the journey, i think) - i love it!

Which means one thing...

James McDonald on weather! YAY!!! I really think James is fab. He has gone from an unknown to the second weather presenter at MT - and with what seems like extended leave for Sue, it seems Shefali is filling that role which means James is getting lots of practice on the weather. He's actually beginning to get good now!!!

Talking of that, I wonder what has happened to Sue. Is she just taking an extended holiday - or what I think is more likely, she is on leave due to illness. Her departure hasn't been mentioned - which I'm sure it would be if she was to leave the programme.

I remember seeing something in the Birmingham Evening Mail recently (last week I think) saying that she was quitting or something. Didn't read much of it but it's looks like she's stepping down. I'm sure if someone has a backdated paper or if there's anything on a local website they'll have something but it was definitely in the Evening Mail.

Hope that helps

I was under the impression that Sue had left, because she was learning a new skill, something to do with smaller cameras, or something.

Again one of this week's Evening Mail holds the answer !

BBC WM have updated their jingles slightly, dropping the local accents from the voice overs, but the dreaded 'drum beat' is still under the travel news.

Waddo, on the 95.6 Brekky Show, presented Julie, his wife, & co host, the 'cut out ' roses from today's Sun, as did the 2 presenters on GMTV, Andy Castle & Kate Garraway !

Yes, I'm a fan of the new theme already! It is very ITV Schools/Channel 4-esque.

Will be interesting to see what the new titles actually look like. Will it actually be the landmarks with the Central News logo in - in some sort of speeded up form of course...or will it be something else.

I'd imagine it couldn't be the landmarks...unless they've got several versions - because with Summer fast approaching - it will be lighter at 6.00 - so it would look stupid with the dark landmarks.

Will be interesting.

Central News does seem to have a relaunch every 5 minutes, but that is possibly because of course there's 3 times as many programmes to relaunch

When was the last time the 3 versions of Central News relaunched?
