Bring on the PC plonker - had to happen sometime I suppose! I fully support the sale of domestic fireworks, so long as they are used for their intended purpose and not as a weapon. Banning fireworks would be like the handgun ban - it would penalise genuine firework enthusiasts like myself, create an underground market and do nothing to stop the yobs chucking bangers.
Because our ludicrous compensation culture has spiralled out of control, insurers are targetting semi-organised firework displays (ie. the village bonfire) with sky-high premiums; so these events get cancelled. Inevitably, more people have been buying their own fireworks as a result.
Anyhow, back to the mocks and the BBC2 ident is not intended as a personal political statement. I wanted to get away from firework effects as that's what I end up doing every year, so it was time to do something else. I decided to use images of actual fireworks (as opposed to drawing them myself) to give a more accurate representation of current pyrotechnic devices. And I won't lie - this way saves a lot of time. The branding is mostly obscured by the photography and lighting methods used.
Let's face it - BBC2's house style doesn't leave much room for manoeuvre!

If only BBC Two had kept that 90's look, I'd like to see a firework going off in the sky shaped like a 2. A bit like Firecracker merged with Optics.

Or it might convey a serious message in an entertaining way (see first posting; ditto re. the pumpkins).
gottago posted:
Bad idea for the BBC2 one, it would incorage kids to play with them in the hopes that they would get blown away!
And there's no point in having pumpkins and witch's hats on the BBC1 one!

Very cool. You going to treat us again for Christmas? BBC2 logo as Father Christmas?

Didn't think it was PC for Santa to ho-ho-ho these days...he doesn't even have children on his knee anymore.
