NO ITV News Network then tonight?
Also Owen Thomas is back
and is still in the main studio, isn't he?
He just signed off that part with,"Stay with us for more flood coverage - the best on the box"

ITV NC have just blown all their kudos for having great pix by having Phil "um er" Gayle presenting. He is completely out of his depth, drowining in the studio while trying to cover this breaking news story.
And just to answer those who keep going on about the Sky Copter.... it probably is there filming. But it can't broadcast live without having somewhere to beam the pictures to... That would need a broadcast receiver or satellite truck... and Sky's nearest is based in Bristol and was probably off-base covering another story when this flood story broke. I'm sure it's on its way.
BBC and ITV regions should usually always be first on the scene of a breaking story, given the number of trucks, reporters and cameras they have in every region. It is to Sky's credit that they actually do so well, so often, and to the BBC and ITV's shame that Sky beat them so often, given the difference in resources.

Also Owen just said, "We make no apology for dedicating all this time to the coverage as no other broadcaster has pictures of this quality!"

Gold award goes to ITV for today's coverage. What excellent coverage and a variety of people on the phone when new pictures were sparse. Their emailed video idea was brave...and I think they just about got away with it because they were the first pictures on the ground.
The BBC coverage was fairly good - leading in my opinion during the early evening when ITV broke away for the disaster that was the ITV News - very bad decision. But they've slipped behind again pretty quickly and although they now have the pictures on the ground, were still an hour behind ITV.
Sky - well...what can I say? Good "coverage" but let down extremely badly in that they had no real pictures to work with. Very poor for Sky and for someone who usually excels in getting the pictures on air first...have failed. Where was the Skycopter for a start!? Very poor.
ITV have just shown that a bit of work and effort can really pay off...making their coverage the best around. Shame it isn't always this good.

BBC have now just shown some 'internet quality' footage of the actual storm with loads of cars floating down the street!
Thumbs up to BBC and ITV. Sky done well with what they had but why didnt they ever get any pics?

I am seriously relieved now. Have just got a text message from a friend who was on holiday there saying he is safe and well, and glad to be enjoying a warm cup of tea at a nearby town hall. He also said he had some fiersome photographs.
A very freaky evening, and hopefully everyone will be accounted for.
