Associated Rediffusion wasn't forced to merge with ABC in 1968 to create Thames. Instead A-R continued to serve the capital during the week.

They soon dropped the Associated from their name and simply became Rediffusion or Rediffusion London. In 1972 the ITV companies still had the old style startups. As colour was a recent innovation, the old VHF 405 line system was still on the TXService card used by the IBA(ITA).

By 1989 Rediffusion had taken on the corporate identity of the ITV network.

In 1994 they created their own ident based on 1989.

Rediffusion 1994

They used this right up until the 1998 hearts identity. But by this point they didn't want to keep in line with the network too much so instead of using the yellow and blue of the Granada companies, Rediffusion used their new brownish orange look.

Again in line with the network Rediffusion used the corporate scheme but with their by now established corporate scheme. They used the split screen throughout the day and not just for local junctions.

Then in 2004 Rediffusion broke away again and began to use this new ident. There were several shot each had different views of London within the star and the letters. Rediffusion thought it was important to keep reterating the ITV1 brand as well as their own.

Sorry about the quality of the video but hey! All feedback and comments are welcome good or bad.

Thanks

Mike

Sorry about the file sizes guys!

These are great! Two minor niggles, though- the font used for the '89 ident isn't right (although if it's meant to be a regional re-edit, that's OK), and the second ident should say 1999 instead of 1998. That does mean, though, that they would have had to have a different ident between '98 and '99...apart from that, pretty good!

Your Mocks are great! ( OK so the quality is pixelated but it is still a good mock)

Yeah, sorry it was supposed to be a regional re-edit (although of course I would say that now). Rediffusion didn't want to jump inline with the network too much, much like Yorkshire changing their V so the Chevron could be seen fully. Rediffusion decided to use their own font.

And the 98/99 thing was a genuine mistake. Rediffusion changed their idents in 1999 (to save me having to come up with a 98-99 set)

Cheers

The 1987 startup looks great...but you've got an ITA card at the start, instead of an IBA one. It also lists a VHF transmitter, but they had all gone by 1985. Plus, Pipkins went in 1981.

Brilliant mocks, brilliant i must say.

One little suggestion, instead of posting the SWF file which stretches it to full screen in an internet browser, if you generate an HTML file in flash, it should make it the normal size for you Wink

Love the Generic 1989 ident the best!

Quick question, where did you get the videos of the generic ident and the hearts ident etc? Were they real files, if so how did u get them into flash?

I think in the 2004 version mock, I think you should have used the current " dur dum dum duurr durr dum" it would of should more up to date. other then that ,BRILLIANT!

I will make all of the changes tomorrow. I am glad you guys like them considering I'm quite new to mocking.

Arrow Mr Stabby I used a programme called EO Video to convert the Real files into Avi/Mpeg files which can then be easily imported into flash.
Arrow I will correct the mistakes in the start-up. What did a 1980's transmitters in service slide looklike? anyone got a screenshot? The reason I change it from IBA to ITA was so that it matched the VO but I will change it back and cut the "broadcasting on the London station..." so it just says "This is Rediffusion" then straight into Colin Weston (who as you probably already know wasn't a London CA at all but infact a Granada CA hence the strip with the Rediffusion star on it).
Arrow Dial Up Borg - I will change the continuity on the 2004 ident to the more recent music. The reason I used this was becuase it mentioned London and was about the only one I could find for the London region!

Cheers for all your comments guy, much appriciated!

Transmitter cards were dropped in the mid-late 1970s. They just used slides like this later on: http://www.russ-net.freeserve.co.uk/ibaslides.htm .

Why does the 1987 startup sequence feature Colin Weston? He was a Granada TV announcer!

Cheers Billy-H, but to save me a great efford we'll call the startup 1972. Very Happy and I'll probably do a different 80's one soon.
DJGM, I did mention in an earlier post that Colin was indeed a Granada CA but, there aren't any video's of Rediffusion announcers doing a startup so I just used Colin. I don't think it really matters becuase you get what I am trying to do. Thanks anyway!
