Does anyone know if Sally James is actually live in the Birmingham studio? (Probably part of the reason Daz 'I support the Wolves' Hale is there !)

I know she was for her Friday shows, apart from a short period due to her illness early in her stint. (I remember her mentioning one Friday show, that she'd be back in the studio the following week!)

Whereabouts does Sally live roughly & which BBC facillity is near to there?

I've still got dodgy reception, plus I have to use my Walkman these days, so not to disturb my sister the sad Trekkie, & mother at 5am etc, but she sounds like she's elsewhere, plus was it my imagination, or her mike dodgy ?

I've got the impression Gaunty's upset someone at WM. (He reckoned someone had words with one of his production team, rather than him, over something !)

Reading the messages on the Londumb message board, it seems he manages to 'upset' the listeners there on BBC London too !

I hope he doesn't go before WM start streaming on line, because I'd love to hear BBC London listeners opinions on the WM show! (I can't get online to hear LDN normally at that point!)

BTW Welcome back all, 'cos It's getting lonely on here!

so the big move has begun to the mailbox. was a fuss made last night or this morning? *looks at westy* - unfortunately i was unable to listen.

it'll be interesting to see how blurred the real 'newsroom' (altho i think its more admin workers than the newsroom) view will be on the new midlands today set in the autumn. and i wonder if any minor bulletins will be done from the newsroom/by window with the view over the canal - cos there is certainly provision for it.

Surely that's the point of his type of programme?

Isn't John Gaunt the modern man's Brian Hayes on LBC in the morning?

Ok 'quick' potted account of Sunday morning.

(The Ben Turner Saturday evening show came from the Newhampton Road West studios in Wolverhampton(The one where WCR comes from ?) )

As predicted, Coventry looked after breakfast, with Paul Marriott in charge, taking inserts from the Royal Show at Stoneleigh.

The 'big' moment arrived at 9am, with Ed Doolan giving a short anno, before handing over to the newsroom. (Between 9 & 930am, Coventry transmitters experienced 'problems, according to Ed !)

Included was : A short 'tour' of the new studio, courtesy of Cayte Walker(on a rare Sunday working) & Keith Beech.

Various BBC presenters, including Nick Owen, Kay Alexander & a surprise appearence from 'Stewpot' himself, Ed Stewart. (Radio 2 / 5 programmes broadcast from Birmingham are moving later, it appears!)

Kay's husband, Brian Conway, ex MT presenter, Brum airport PR, is now working for JCB.

'Dame Edna', 'Maggie Thatch' & 'Anne Widdecombe', all appeared, courtesy of Steve 'Spitting Image' Nallon, who managed to get a plug in for his upcoming live appearences.

Also appearing were various civic dignitries, including Travel West Midlands corparate supremo, Phil Bateman, wearing his other hat of Wolverhampton councilor & deputy mayor.

Waddo & Julie were outside, by the boat too!

Did Mollie Green get on air Ok this morning?

She did, but the text was broken again, for 5th/6th day in a row, for the first half hour of the show.

(Is there a specific opt out point for 5 live overnights, as WM broadcasts the opening 5 live annos & headlines, before opting, which sounds messy IMO!)

Tonight's MT featured a report on Brums traffic problems.

Cayte looks rough doesn't she !

WCR 1350 AM have two studios at the Newhampton Arts Centre. They produce the WCR programme for WM and the BBC have a small office on the same floor in the same building.

Janice Long and Alex Lester are still at Pebble Mill and haven't mentioned the move yet. Janice gave the postal address the other day as "Janice Long, Radio 2, B5 7QQ".

I know it all seems to be happening at BBC Birmingham just lately but what is happening over at Central?

This is of course meant to be a Central/BBC joint thread!

When does Midlands Today move across?
JC
Jack Carkdale
I'm willing to bet that Midlands Today will be the absolute last thing to move fom t'Mill to t'Mailbox.

Obviously radio (WM and Archers etc) are going first.

I suspect that everything else (e.g. administration, BBC English Regions' HQ, "Where I Live" website maintenence, the newsroom, etc etc) will then move.

And MT itself will probably be last.

If the whole process is only really going to gather pace in autumn 2004 (as has been said in this thread), then I wouldn't be surprised if the MT move doesn't happen this side of 01/01/05!
