Yes Mishal is pregnant, and will leave to have her baby before or in September.

Will Sian be back by then?

I don't think so - I thought Sophie was due to be off for six months, and I think she only left at the beginning of May so that wouldn't see her back until November. They might rush her back as an emergency measure, otherwise they're going to have major staffing difficulties!

Did someone say Louise Minchin was pregnant as well...? They're not going to have any women left!

And I agree with TELEVISION - Breakfast was excellent this morning. It was good to see Bill and Natasha together again, but I wonder where Dermot was - the Radio Times had him down to do it as usual. It's shaping up to be a busy week for Bill, as he's down to do both Breakfast and the Six on Friday as well as today's extra shift.

Perhaps Jane will present - as there isn't really anyone else, not unless Louise or Emily aren't off untill November at least.

If push came to shove, they could dip into a plethora of female reporters for BBC News. I remember in 2000/2001, Emma Howard and Louisa Baldini had a go. There are also other reporter/presenters, such as Jules Botfield, Maxine Mawhinney, Anna Jones, Joanna Gosling, Kate Silverton...the list is endless. Not forgetting that there are more female BBC World presenters other than Mishal Husain. I also remember Tanya Beckett presented it once or twice a few years ago - there are loads of female business and sport presenters available. Somehow, I don't think they're going to have a problem.

Interesting to see that John Simpson is presenting the 1700 hour live from Baghdad .. currently interviewing Andrew Marr ... World Affairs Editor talking to Political Editor ... can't think that's happened much before.

No, i never thought that they would have a problem, but if they were to use another presenter, for only 2 months, it wouldn't be so problematic just to have Jane. She could present her N24 slot, Mon-Wed, and then Brekkie, and have someone else cover her N24 slot, as Breakfast is more important, rather than getting an unknowen face just for 2 or so months, to then dissapear again.

Maybe we will have that awfull Botfield Crying or Very sad

Indeed - that means it must be three years since we all got excited on here about the chance to watch one of the nations' news bulletins!! That was in the days before all the regions were on DSat, and indeed, now it's worse when the news is on BBC Two! I remember choosing to watch Newsline (before they went "BBC Newsline" branding mad), and Noel Thompson and Donna Traynor were having a laugh about national kissing day!

From the back page of this week's Ariel:
Quote:
Even the most hardened ravers start to twitch when the Ten O'Clock News comes on and by the time Huw Edwards says good evening they're jumping around wide-eyed and waving glo sticks.

That's Bill Bailey's theory at least. The wild-eyed comedian, who turns the flagship tune into a rave track on his live tour, builds his sketch around the fact that the music sounds exactly like an "apocalyptic rave anthem".

We dropped in on Mike Cobb (head of music publishing) to see what he thought about it. "It's a very clever piece of music. David Lowe [composer] hit on the idea of using the pips in the soundtrack, which bought it up to date - it was our ingredient x," he reveals. Lowe was also the man behind Touch 'N Go's number one single "Would you" (more garage than rave, but might explain things).

Rave or no rave, as one BBC observer put it, the tune's "much better than the Sky orchestral ad-bumper, huge globes and sweeping primary-colour logo crap".

Very Happy

Why did England ( Wales , NI ? ) show the Six and regional 6.30 on BBC2, but meanwhile BBC Scotland had the Six on BBC 1?

BBC Scotland have some sense, and realise they have a Scottish audience who haven't turned into 'Henmaniacs'.

How about Moira presents with Bill/Dermot? Or Kate Sanderson

Interesting to see Paddy O'Connell is presenting BBC Three News this week while Eddie Mair is off ... nice to have Paddy back.
