On a similar note - is it just me or is the backdrop on the National fading? It's probably just that the light intensity in the studio has been increased, but it definitely looks paler since the early days of this set.

Take a look at this image of one of the first broadcasts from this set, and compare it to how it looks today.

Also, the desk light seems much yellower than it used to be.

The desk looks terrible with the really yellow light. They should stop having lights in the desk - it looks much better without them.

I think with the design and number of lights in the BBC News studio, it would be very effective to dim the lights at the end of the programme, especially on the Ten.

But what has happened to the lights? They used to be white a year ago. Also the projection screens seem to be a lot more washed out nowadays.

Yes, it seems very strange. Here is a, very bad quality, capture (or more precisely, photo!) from the beginning of tonight's Six.

As you can see from comparing it with the above capture, despite the poor quality of this one, the background is clearly much paler, and more blue than before. Either something very strange has gone on with the colours of the projection, or the virtual background has been changed. It looks as if the walls at the back of the virtual newsroom, which used to appear black, have at some point been changed to a blue colour.

Either way, I preferred it how it used to be.

Just turned on the Six to have a look. Not watched it for ages.

First thing I heard was "You can see that at 9 o'clock tonight on BBC 2"

Nothing changes, I see.

There are two versions of the background - one which is used on the 1 and sometimes the 6 which has white at the top, and paler colours in the background, which is being used tonight, and a darker version which is used on the 10.

You can see how much lighter the desk was then.

Have you noticed on the Weekend bulletins, it is more white compared to the blue on the 6?

The weather map at the end of the 6 seems to get worse every night. It's lost it's detail and the colours look terrible - especially the yellow on the sun. They ought to go back to chromakey . . . quickly! Shocked

The problem with the BBC News is, once they find new technology, they don't know what to do with it. A very good example is the virtual set from TC10. There was only one special variation , and that was election 93 or 97. There is a lot of flexibility with the virtual background, just the BBC don't know what to do.
