Vicky Marsden does the 2am-4am 'graveyard shift' at the moment.

Some of the changes look good. It's about time they had a proper "drivetime" show rather than having 3-6 and 6-8, and I'm not a fan of Dave Pearce so won't be too sad to see him go. It'll also be good to have a variety of styles of music after 9 - great to see Bobby Friction and Nihal getting a decent slot. Evenings have been far too 'indie' for years IMHO.

Glad to see Trevor Nelson's Saturday show extended to 3 hours, but not good to see the Sunday 'Rhythm Nation' replaced by a 1-3am show midweek. Hopefully the Saturday show will BE the 'Rhythm Nation', rather than the current RnB Chart format, though.

Well I'm not a huge fan of R1 in the daytime [and their 5-song playlist] so the evening/night changes affect me far more.

Never been a fan of Dave Pearce, though Vicky Marsden isn't too bad. At least there are some non-playlists songs played.

I'm pleased that the Lock Up finally moves to a respectable time, and John Peel on an hour later is also better for me personally. Everything else is going to take a bit of getting used to -- the slots have been the same for several years.

And I almost certainly won't get to listen to R1 Wales anymore, which is a shame.

Steve Lamacq's Monday show is huge and often has very high profile people live. I wouldn't say they were edging him out.

Who's Vicky Marsden? Know the name but don't know when she was on.

Dance Anthems is fantastic - how could you say it was tired? It has far far more energy than late drive.

They started edging Lamacq out when they axed the Evening Session...Vicky Marsden does 2-4am Wed-Fri mornings, although I've thought for a long time that this was on borrowed time as they do more and more specialist stuff at that time. Dance Anthems sounds so dated it's funny, all very 1997/8 in style...dance music has moved on.

Yep, it seems like he and Gilles Peterson have done a straight swap there. I too hope the R& B chart format will be dropped, because it puts me right off. Do you remember trevors saturday show when it first started, or even his sunday afternoon show? Those were excellent, plenty of time for him to play lots of old 80s soul tracks.

My other thoughts on this are... everyone in daytime has three hours, nice ILR style schedule, though how Colin & Edith can spread themselves over 15 hours a week, i don't know. If i had to listen to all that I'd go insane.

When Sara Cox comes back ( I bet she does), expect a JK & Joel weekend breakfast.

And finally genre themed evenings are a nice idea, but ruined by the fact John peel is sat in the middle of them all. Perhaps they should have risked him between nine and eleven.

Yep - those shows were great. It would be fantastic if the new show was along the same sort of lines. My only minor niggle is that the new show will be on at the same time as Diggz's RnB show on 1Xtra from 5-7. At the moment it's great because his show starts when Trevor's finishes, so you can switch over for more RnB if you want it, but unless 1Xtra's Saturday schedule gets a revamp, I won't be able to do that anymore!

The show is called "Dance Anthems", hence anthems, hence it's not necessarily about how dance has moved on - although they do include some current dance on it. IMO it's not anthemy enough - although not anywhere NEAR as bad as MTV Dance - the bank holiday special where they did an Old School Dance Anthems was more like what the show should be like on a regular basis - true anthems.

JK & Joel weekend breakfast.

How an earth do you know JK and Joel, I thought you lot were all southerners. It was such a big mistake with Key 103 letting them go and sacking joel. Radio 1 is a dead station. Now were stuck with that crap "Toolan in the Morning"

I thought JK And Joel were doing weekend lunchtime/early afternoon...

I don't think Sara will come back, at least not full-time, look what happened by Zoe Ball went....

Schedule changes seem good, all they need to do now is get rid of Spoony.

These changes seem OK though personally I'd have had Peel on at 9 and from 11 I'd have Rock and Lock Up (Tue), Nelson & Bobby/Nihal (Wed) and possibly the Annies (Thu) though if I was doing it I'd also put the two Westwood shows together in a single Lamacq-style block. (He's losing an hour from one of his shows).
The simplest way to look at it is to say all shows between Drive and midnight are moving back an hour, the current 1Xtra Presents, Lock Up and Marsden are being replaced by Experimental, Zane is replacing Pearce and the new 9pm slots replace Zane (with 1xtra Presents moving to Bobby & Nihal's old slot).
That's the basic bones of the switch (aside from a few different tweaks at the weekend such as Jules and Essential Mix times and Fergie's day). Westwood loses an hour, as does Friday Drive, whilst Saturday Nelson gains an hour, as do Colin & Edith and Chappers &B Dave (ahead of JK & Joel arriving on Saturdays in August).
As an alternative fan who lives just outside XFM's footbridge I say that these changes are OK as they'll beef up the specialities, so let's see how they take...
