Yes it is you if you don't get the Scottish humour, it's very similar to Irish humour or "crack" as they like to say .For us celts it realy ****es me off having to put up with those middle class boring English sitcoms with Mummy this and Daddy that it's NOT appreciated in Scotland but we have to put up with it all the time especially here in the Border TV and BBC Cumbria region as it is English biased to us Scots who live in South Scotland .Still at least we hopefully have heard the very last of that guy Johnnie and his boring rugby win something else that is NOT realy applicable to us in Scotland yet we are forced to watch !!!!!.

I think someone needs to grow up. Why does comedy that is produced by BBC Scotland have to be Scottish comedy and comedy produced by the BBC in London, Manchester, Birmingham etc... have to be English comedy when in most people's view it's just British comedy. Now we all know you hate the English, but why shouldn't the English celebrate winning a major sporting tournament the way any other nation would. Just because we are one country, four nations and many regions doesn't mean that people have to keep pointing out our differences. Personally i think it's narrowminded "English haters" like you that stop this country progressing. The UK will get no where if the British people don't stop with the petty arguments about who did this in 1314, and who did that in 1703. The fact is we are now 1 country and we ARE a United Kingdom, we have been for 300 years. The sooner people like you realise that...the better!

I pretty much agree - althought we do still hear about cough......1966... Rolling Eyes . But the UK will never be whole again anyway - Scotland has its own parliament now, and Wales has got its assembly - not sure what is actually happening at Stormont. But I agree and I would like to be one country with all four nations together - I am english, but I have lived in Scotland for a while - and you do have to accept the views of the many Scots here aswell, because they do feel english-bias, and I can see that now.

Fair enough - but if you want to celebrate a major sporting victory at least give us some sort of opt-out. Having Scottish TV screen England: A Nation Celebrates is just bizarre (admittedly, that is very much the allegedly independently owned STV's fault, however, the BBC has no such excuse).

I suppose if you're a smaller country which is part of a bigger group, you're going to be culturally dominated by the biggest country. Broadcasters will aim for the majority. The only way of dealing with things like that is independence, and while I'm sympathetic to that movement, I don't think not having Scottish comedies networked and having farcically biased Euro 2004 coverage is worth it on its own. Just.

Pity you couldn't have preached that to the Irish in 1916. Wink

Me too - if it had been a Scottish, Welsh or Irish victory it never would have got so much media coverage.

personally, i have found every networked bbc scotland comedy dire. maybe there is a "scottish humour" that i just do not get.

my poor experience with bbc scotland productions maybe accidental ... or perhaps it is illustrative of a wider lack of appreciation of scottish humour south of the border.

Firstly let me make it quite clear i'm NOT an "English hater" and infact you should grow up,and try to read the posts that people reply to then you may understand what i mean in my post .

I don't care who or what comedies are made where what i do object to are patronising and insulting comments made about "lack of appreciation of Scottish humour south of the border " .When we have NO choice up here to put up with English programming having to take English bank holiday films and sport when it is NOT bank holiday in Scotland .Until a few years ago in the Border region we were expected to have to watch New Year Celebartions from London on our Hogmany .

It's all about diffrent cultures diffrent ways of life and not to mention a diffrent country but that does NOT make us English haters your rather paranoid i think .And as for the Rugby win or whatever it was yes nice one i'm pleased for England but how long did we have to suffer it on and on and on perhaps if you lived in one of the nations you would understand a bit more that not only Scottish but Welsh and Irish do NOT want to keep hearing or watching this .Just as you in England would not like to have the same if one of the nations side won but then again if it was a nations side it would NOT get that sort of coverage because the bottom line is the media is English biased .

And my opinion does NOT make me an English hater so grow up .

Thanks for that .

My Father is English and i have English relatives and not to mention very good English friends.I don't think people should make so many assumptions about everyone up hating the English up here in Scotland .I do hate Football and Rugby Scottish and English . And one thing i'm sick of on this forum are certain people like Granadaland jumping the gun and making sweeping statements without knowing what they are talking about .

With my post I wasn't meaning to be patronising, offensive or arrogant. I didn't mean to jump the gun, and i admit I haven't read the whole thread. Whether it came through or not, what the underlying message in my post was about is Britain. These day I find there isn't enough use of the words Britain, British and Briton. We are too quick to dismiss the fact that we are all in fact British, we almost seem embarassed to be so. I personally enjoy embracing the four different cultures that come from the four nations, as well as all of the fantastic other cultures that have braced our shores. I responded to you post a bit hot headedly because I don't like it when there is tension between the two parts of the country. (Although it will always be there). I understand what you (and others) are saying about the English bias in the border regions. But we in the English regions also feel that London bias. I eventually want a career in the Media but all of the jobs have moved to London with the ITV merger. So we are feeling the same about London.

Once again I apologise for my hot headedness and I hope you understand what I have been saying.

Bit of a mess at SMG Towers today - they missed the first 20 minutes of the junior cup final after the formula one went quite badly wrong. Then just before Hell's Kitchen they screened the ident with the person who everyone I've spoken to can only describe as "Phil Mitchell out of Eastenders". Have I missed something, or has he not been on ITV for a while? Then, after screening the ident, I'm told (although I didn't see this bit) they appeared to show 15 seconds of an advert before crashing cackhandedly into the programme.

SMG have never updated the idents though since their launch back in Jan 2003 the only one they don't show now is Angus Simpson who they axed last April .I thought it was ironic when ITV news relaunched without Katie Derham and on that night of the relaunch they used her ident .They are not intune with the rest of the network and they are getting quite sloppy the announcer that is on tonight is dull as dishwater .I think she used to be a Westsound DJ .
