A few months on since the relaunch and ITV News is really disappointing. I think it should be re-named Budget News. The studio is really boring.. a live newsroom setting would work better and the colour is too cold to get properly involved. Presenters are a bit hit and miss, Phil Gayle yesterday was dreadful and they make alot of basic mistakes too often. Neil Connery in Baghdad, so who is in Africa then?? Covering the world very comprehensively obviously!! Very few lives, often silly, bland, certainly not ground breaking studio interviews, too many voiced over reports, it all feels a bit cheap and therefore simply does not compete.

CNN International.. now there is a channel that has got its act together.. Dajit Dalliwal (spelling?), Becky Anderson, Sonia Ruseler, that posh blond girl from the ITN News Channel who went to Sky and now does the breakfast programme on CNNI. All ex-ITN, and makes the channel along with Robin Oakley, Richard Quest, Terry Badoo etc etc etc really rather good. So there you have it.

I don't like the studio either - it's ok when they are walking about the studio, but when they sit at the desk, and the box appears with a graphic and the blue background it is really boring. I would like to have had a real newsroom setting aswell - althought the only studio available to get the ITV Newsroom is the ITV London news studio. I really think that ITV News has not got any better presentation-wise, and certainly not for the stories they cover. The News at 10.30 is the worst - and it has the best presenter - Trevor. They always seem to put a load of crap on at ten, is it not possible to remove one of the commercial breaks from the 9-10pm slot, and have News at Ten, and I'm sure with a better editorial team they could cover some proper stories in the second half. And get rid of the stupid sport section, and regional news embedded in the half hour, and have a full half hour of national and international news. I'm sure then they could compete and takeover the Ten O'Clock News.

I'm sure I will have critics of what I have said telling me to shut up about News at Ten and about the stories they cover - but it is all about competition in the news business - and ITV just seem to have given up on their late news - they need someone who will take control and make the late ITV News what it used to be. Now I'll shut up!

I like the studio, as its different to other newschannels, as the newsroom isnt there, and i like it as its more relaxing. They should use those video boxes behind the presenter, like used on the shot going to the break. The four main squares really do not work on the news channel. They should have a today programmes, live from the newsroom, just to take a break from the main studio

ITV seem to have the idea that if they use flashy graphics they can make up for their lack of news. It's just not working. They need to get a studio for the news channel if they insist on having the thing and spend some money. Plus News At Ten should be like it used to be, a proper hard show. The late news now is just the 6.30 show with a frown.

Angie Rippon's show is fab though. And Phil wasn't too bad bless him.

Exactly - the exact same stories from the Evening News are covered on the late bulletin. If they do insist on having the news at 10.30, they need a full half hour excluding regional news and that pointless sports section, I mean the first half of the News at 10.30 is ok, but after break it is absolutely rubbish, if ITV can have some unfunny comedy on at 10, I'm sure there is a round about way of getting News at Ten on.

That's the only part of the new ITV.plc that isn't great, the fact that they won't spend additional money, that find that thinks are satisfactory.
It would be great if they did invest more money, maybe not for a separate studio, but for more reporters, and maybe presenting strands from the atrium, and newsroom.

The old news at ten was better as it was different, the only difference nowadays is that the titles are slightly darker, and the presenter is different, not always the case if mark does the vening and the late.

Angela is just a nice refreshing change, much like Alastair is, they are old faces returning with their own ideas on the modern day world, people that have experienced many years of news, and news casting that are putting their experience to good use. Great that itv got Angela, and i hope that they improve their service, as best they can.

Could ITV News not do this...?

1) Use London Tonight Sofa Studio for Angela Rippon's morning show, as both Breakfast and GMTV don't use a sofa on a Sunday, plus it would bring back a lot of memories for Angela!

2) Not put regional news updates on throughout the day, i.e. 15:37, 15:42 etc.

3) Move back to the NAT and make it worthwhile!

4) Save sports for the 6 or hav M.C. Donald (Dr. Tre) presenting the sports section from the desk.

The itv news at 1030 is excellent. The thing i noticed about it which the old news at when didn't do was have stories the evening news didn't have, the fact of the matter is headline news is headline news, and so if the headline news is the same throughout the evening then both programmes will have the same story, but the 1030 makes an effort to do different stories to the evening news; it was first to cover haiti, that guy being released from the israel prison, and the sport (which is not pointless at all) has different stories. Also it does have anaylitical stuff and the newspapers are good too; i can't see how you can complain about this programme.

The itv news channel has improved a lot, still most comments are stupid, its studio is great and perfect for the channel. Angela rippon and alastair stewart's shows are great. the mornings with andrew and lucy are good, the afternoon with steve and felicity is also good. the two things that i have a problem with are the coverage overnight until 7am, and the voice overered reports - people like catherine jacob, philip raey-smith, emma murphy, angus walker, libby weiner, romilly weeks etc should do more lives in the morning for the news channel.

Did you ever watch News at Ten before ITV rubbished it in 1999? If not then I can see why you have that view - but the late ITV News does not come marginally close to how good it was, say, 10 years ago. I made the point of saying the first half is OK, but the second half is not. I don't see why the programme cannot be a full half hour - then they could still have sports news - althought I don't think it merits being on a flagship bulletin - plus more news and a special report which really would make it a great programme. Then there could be regional news at 2300. But you cannot possibly say that it is a brilliant programme - it is absolutely not compared to its counterpart on BBC1. The story that is covered right after the break is often the very last ' fluffy ' story covered on the Evening News. Plus it always borrows reports that were used earlier in the day - even the BBC manage to redo the report in different wording for the Ten.

That's not true at all. The two programmes usually have different reports and different reports.

And the story "covered right after the break" is not a fluffy one at all; they utilise a quarter of the wall for it.

You seem to be forgetting that the late ITV News is not the main flagship programme.
If you are making comparisons with pre-1999 it should be the old News at Ten against the ITV Evening News and the current ITV Late News against the old ITV Early Evening News.

And because of that, the story is serious?!
