Phil Gayle's first appearance was quite odd, he'll probably get used to it.
His very first bit at 1pm couldn't have been more uncomfortable. They went straight into some Breaking News which Leyla dealt with on her own, meaning Phil sat silently didn't know whether to look at the camera, look at his script or open and close his suit jacket.

Phil Gayle is good as he is recognisable and therefore viewers may find him more familier, though he did appear slightly out of place.

Yes that's what I thought, however the announcement in the Central region told us that the ITV News is with Bill & Andrea in thirty minutes. Could have been a mistake, though it would be great to see them together.
EDIT: It is indeed Bill Neely and Andrea Catherwood. Should be good, as they are both good, heavyweight presenters and it's nice to have a change in the presening line-up.

Andrea has only been off for five months, although her duties in december were scaled if i remember, perhaps she chose to come back

I was really surpised to see Andrea and Bill tonight but they were good. I loved the ending to the programme.

Its not going very well for Phil Gayle so far as the 8pm TOTH was a complete shambles.
After Felicity read the first headline, the titles rolled and we joined the studio as usual. Both Felicity and Phil sat there for what seemed like ages, both waiting for the other to start. Just as Phil was going to Felicity read it. Phil then read all remaining headlines which were then one in front of the accompanying images. He also keeps talking really loud!
I bet Phil will perform best when he's on his own at 10pm
I hope they ask him back, he'd be quite a good addition to the channel
