The only way to liven things up, without the need for silly twists of format or overseas gimmicks is simple.
No nominations - everyone is up for eviction - the viewers can vote for anyone of the housemates from start to finish.
I quite like the Fame Academy style vote that they tried out in the first week of BB3 (?), where the viewers can vote for anyone then the housemates choose between the bottom two.
I don't think it's going to work... we had sex on Teen Big Brother and it didn't get the ratings.
I don't think people watch Big Brother to see sex. There was no sex in Big Brother 1 or 2 and they were both very successful. People are surely more likely to watch it if there are interesting characters being funny and doing interesting things. If watching some tart bonking in the 'romp shower' is what classes as prime time entertainment nowadays, then I must say I'm a little concerned as to the future of our programmes.
There has been sex overseas on Big Brother and that's not pulled the viewers in either. And yet this new house is entirely focused on making people have sex, even to the point where they are auditioning couples - most probably so that they automatically have two people who have already had sex and so may feel more comfortable doing it on TV.
Big Brother was best when the people were in there to win the money and got bitchy and twisted. Take the example of Nasty Nick - he really played the game well... until he got caught out.
Another thing - they need to stop the viewers voting the bitches out.

Yes, but unfortunately, the contestants themselves have decided that the only way to win is to stay in the background, be nice, and curry favour with the other housemates in order to stay in as long as possible.
Alright then... how about forcing five of the ten contestants to lie - so anything they say about their life outside of the house has to be completely made up.
If a 'normal' person wins, they get the £70,000. If one of the liars wins then all five liars share £1,000,000.
Obviously the viewers would soon know who is lying as the press will find ex-girlfriends and so on, but the housemates won't.
I'm a big brother fan, and ashamedly I do get quite exited at this time of year when all the house pics and stuff are revealed. Although this year it's not half as much excitement as it is concern, It used to be an interesting social experiment, but over the past 2 years it has moved away from that and become more gimmicky and contrived. It's funny how they keep stressing they're not after sex, when as already said, the house this year is clearly designed to encourage it and they've even gone as far as auditioning couples to practically guarantee us it.
Big Brother is absolute crap now. I've tried my hardest not to watch the last two series but couldn't resist. It'll probably be the same this time!
I'll be watching them sleep rather than revising for exams...
Too true, BB5 I suspect will be a washout, its just overkill the show needs to have a wider varity of people of all ages, sexes, races etc etc.
It seems to me they just get wannabes on the show.
People who have no charisma, no character self important t$^^&*, who will be forgotten in a year from now anyway!
Tripe.....
New rumour: evicted housemates will return on Saturdays to nominate one housemate for eviction.
Personally, if they keep the BB format, I think a good twist would be to bring the ex-housemates back to make the final nominations of the series.
Also, re: house. It looks really good so far - much more part of the programme. Last year's house didn't really add to the programme in the way it had done previously.
I've asked Asa to reset the poll with a question on the format of Big Brother 5 - so is it working for you. Personally, it won't let me vote while 2 Rich-Poor format options appear - both in the lead at 46%.
