Yes, just saw this now. Quite impressive, basically it's the Sport / Fact File part of the set to the right, but with a much wider shot than normally used, and graphics popping out of the circular platform, and also on the sides of the set which are next to the projector screen.
The views of the newsroom through the set walls looked different, and when I saw it, it did not appear to be live, so I wonder if it was done in the same place the Ten O'Clock News CSO reports are, with the windows looking out over the London skyline, and the fake big screen?
Any more news on this anyone? Sounds interesting - but due to recent decline in this forum, nobody's latched on to it. I missed N24 yesterday so would be interested if someone could post a capture or give any more details. Thanks.
It really is very impressive (sorry can't cap it)- the most classy use of VR that UK news broadcasting has seen. It's a very wide straight-on shot of the right hand set...which suggests that the cameras are set up especially for this purpose- it looks like it has to pre-recorded probably during breakfast when the studio is free.
There are VR red curved screens behind Nick Higham from both sides of the rear projection screen. But in front of him are 4 small circular red lights on the floor (within the white lit ring). These lights are the basis of rising VR bars for graphs/statistics that rise in front of the presenter and the other VR screens. On top of this, they have the ability to have a floor map to the left of the presenter (basically below the rear projeciton screen) and use the curves of the circular white plinth to have raised curved VR screens.
It really is a beautiful thing- it knocks Sky's efforts for six simply because, unlike Sky News', there is a point. These aren't flashy graphics for the sake of flashy graphics. These are flashy graphics that tell the story without dumbing down to facilitate the graphics (e.g. the rising bar graphs).
And just on the subject of News 24's "New Europe" coverage- it really is of the top quality...apart from a lovely set of graphics (including those described above), you've got a barge travelling through the countries, but even more impressive was the live link-up to John Sopel in Prague, who then handed over to another live-link in another part of Prague. It's phenomenol to anchor a 10 minute slot from a city hundreds of miles away from base in London and be able to hand around that city in perfect timing. Very good effort.
Thanks for that - hope it'll be on when I get home in a few minutes!

I don't know if anyone's seen today's Fact File on Slovenia yet, but I think it's been the first use of the "Advanced Graphics" promised at the relaunch!
