Who will replace him.?.

Erm... Mark Austin, Mary Nightingale and Nick Owen!

I asked that because on the other page Alistair Stewart was mentioned.

Sorry, do you think Alastair may get on to ITV1 bulletins again?, especially after his stint last year, it would be a welcome return. Someone else mentioned that in time Andrew Harvey may get on to ITV1.

Yes, he did look very upset. To be honest I think it was awful of ITN to let him announce his departure like that, at the least Felicity could have pulled up a chair at the desk and said goodbye from everyone at ITN. But I think John is the type of person who doesn.t like a fuss.

Oh come on , it was a news bulletin. Yes he's retiring, but it doesn't mean the news itself should be triviallised. They had a job to do. What did you want, Felicity and Trev giving him flowers, prezzies and hugs and kisses? Laughing

Well when Alastair Burnet retired Alastair Stewart announced his departure, and when Julia Somerville left John Suchet mentioned it and embraced her on air, I do not see why they could not have had Felicity say something, even if he did not want a fuss.

Well yes, I see what you mean, Felicity could well have mentioned something at the end of her sports bulletin. But what would've been the point of that with five minutes of regional news still to come? Hardly the best of sendoffs. It was best that John himself signed off at the end, it was excellent, and very moving I feel.

Well John Suchet got a good send-off on This Morning. They had filmed him at ITN yesterday, and we saw him chatting to Mark in the newsroom and saying hello to Trevor and Katie.

We also saw the applause in the newsroom at the end of the bulletin and John's speech after the bulletin.

There were also tributes from Trevor, Nick, Alastair and Mary.

Katie Derham said a few words too, live from the ITV News studio.

I saw John on This Morning he looked much more relaxed and i have to say it very handsome. There was a moving tribute to him the others on the team at ITN did a small montage for him wishing him well .

The best bit was when Fern and Phillip said John we have to say ITN not ITV news we don't like calling it that which he agreed at the end of the interview Katie came on to pay tribute before reading the headlines at midday and John did the link saying we're handing over to my Goodfriend katie Derahm at ITN for the news love it .

He was definately very close to tears on This Morning whilst seeing a moving tribute from everyone at ITN.

PS. they mentioned that their big camera thingy broke minutes before Johns last bulletin.

I hope he continues to appear on TV occasionally, he could be a stand-in on This Morning!

I saw that to, he was a good newscaster.

He said he would write songs and interduce concerts and write a book.

Does anyone have the This Morning thing on a VHS as I am currently not near a television set and would like to see it?

Yes it was a good piece on This Morning, notice how Alistair Stewart is regarded as one of the main people at ITN again, but I suppose he's never been away as far as londoners are concerned.

The speach by John probably explains why the 11pm bit on the News Channel last night was recorded, good also to see Trevor in a relaxed fashion!

Thursdays at 11 is usually a repeat of US Election Weekly - it's usually trailed at the end of the 10.30 bulletin, but we got John's farewell instead of the plug for the NC last night.
