I was awaiting a walk on appearance by Sir Trevor at the end of John's bulletin - but no...

just a 'thankyou and goodbye'

Also they could have used their fancy camera technique as the end credits rolled. Rolling Eyes

I thought that camera angle was there especially to create a sad end, just a simple slow pan out from the side rather than the usual extreme shots.

John Suchet's on This Morning tommorow, maybe this is why Leyla was fronting the News Channel for three hours on her own from 1-4pm today, maybe it was John Suchet's leaving meal?!

Crying or Very sad itv news didn't do anything for John Suchet. He just said 'thats the last time i'll be presenting, goodnight'.

When Alistair Burnett retired a few years ago, they had a special report looking back on his ITN carreer.

John will be missed, it was a shock when he said it was tonight. I knew it was coming soonish but not that soon.

Who will replace him.?.

Yes, he did look very upset. To be honest I think it was awful of ITN to let him announce his departure like that, at the least Felicity could have pulled up a chair at the desk and said goodbye from everyone at ITN. But I think John is the type of person who doesn.t like a fuss.

Oh come on , it was a news bulletin. Yes he's retiring, but it doesn't mean the news itself should be triviallised. They had a job to do. What did you want, Felicity and Trev giving him flowers, prezzies and hugs and kisses? Laughing

It's a news programme, they're not going to have some big party are they ? Maybe John wanted it that way anyway, he's always been a dignified quiet man, and it would'nt have been right for John to say "here are the best bits of my 32 year career".

Maybe ITV will do a programme looking back on his career, or their might be something on the News Channel. Great sign off though, John looked very moved, he's a genuinely very nice man.

lol - well.. they could have broadcast a little thing after the weather.. ...'we're now going back to the ITV News studios for an important announcement...here's Felicity Barr' Laughing Razz

I asked that because on the other page Alistair Stewart was mentioned.

Stunning ending on the end of the Lunchtime News, I take it that it was a mistake.

Why was it stunning?

Well, it wasn't bad. Dimmed lights and camera swooping up to the one on the ceiling.

I wasn't been funny, I really think that when they end a little early and just pan around the studio a little playing the bed while the large screen animates the effect looks stunning - so dramatic, *the* best news prog ending anywhere... makes the BBC National News ending, with the cam just lifting a little with a poor BBC NEWS logo placed at the end look pretty rubbish...

That was in reference to the eventual successor to Trevor McDonald.

When the February relaunch was announced, it was said that Mark and Mary would be the relief presenters on the 10.30, so I imagine that is what will happen in the short to medium term, with Katie Derham and Nick Owen making occasional appearances at 10.30 too.

Simple fact was that the usual swooping camera, the jib, went down perhaps half an hour before air and could not be resuscitated, so alternate cameras had to be used. Given the amount of time between that happening and TX, as well as the inflexibility of the other cameras, that any of those shots happened at all was am impressive feat. Trust me, that was a hairy, hairy programme, and that it went out so cleanly was a testament to all involved...

This is what The Times' Memorial Services column had to say about the Terry Lloyd service on Monday:
The Times posted:
Terry Lloyd

A service of thanksgiving for the life and work of Terry Lloyd, journalist, was held yesterday at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street.

Canon David Meara officiated. Ms Juliet Bremner read the lesson. Mr Mike Inglis, an ITV cameraman, read Farewell my Friends by Rabindranatah Tagore. Mr Steve Clark read The Story of Beddgelert and Mr David Mannion, Editor of ITV News, gave an address.

Among those present were Mrs Lloyd (widow), Miss Chelsey Lloyd and Oliver Lloyd (children), representatives of ITN, Sky News, the BBC and other media organisations, and many friends and former colleagues.

The endings of all BBC News bulletins would look so much better if they put the lights out, and just had the red panels and the desk lit up, it would look so much better. The One O'Clock News ending is the most annoying, there are no end titles, they should do a bulletin like the Ten where they go back to Huw in London (ie. then go back to Anna) or like the nations at the end of the Six, they just cut into their news, that could be done on all the regions.
