The SkyCopter will be put to it's proper use for the first time tomorrow for the coverage of the Budget 2004.

The Sky News Centre posted:
On Wednesday 17 March, Sky News introduces extensive coverage of the Budget from 10.00 to 15.00 on what will be a crucial day for the Labour Government.

1030 Sky News’ Political Editor Adam Boulton will be in Westminster talking to leading political figures and discussing the expected outcome of the Budget.

1200 Prime Minister’s Questions broadcast live.

1230 Gordon Brown’s Budget speech broadcast live.

During and after Gordon Brown’s address, Sky News presenters and correspondents will be providing viewers with a wealth of information and revealing what the Budget means for Britain.

Kay Burley will be in the Skycopter, flying from Gordon Brown's constituency in Dunfermline to Michael Howard's in Folkestone. She will travel the length of the country gauging reaction to the Budget.

Julie Etchingham will be in the Sky News Centre with a finance expert to answer viewers' personal budget questions.

Martin Stanford will be in a virtual online supermarket - the Sky Mart - to give summaries of the budget measures and analyse their impact on the average family.

Business Editor Michael Wilson will be evaluating business reaction and analysing all the tax changes with a panel of experts.

All this sounds pretty amazing!!

One Question- Why? An astonishing waste of money...Sky do have at least some regional correspondents don't they?

Well the same old thing is normally rolled out year after year. It's about time we got some fresh ideas into UK news. Anyway, sounds pretty interesting to me! ITV News then BBC News 24 will no doubt copy the format in a couple of years time.

It's trying the things like this that makes Sky distinctive - as so often... it may be gimmicky, but it's a big set piece occasion you can plan for - not many of those in news.

One of those scenarios where no doubt we'd moan if they were in the studio, and now we moan when they're out.

When do us UK lot get the new graphics then? Any video captures of the new graphics down under?

Live to Baghdad now, you can just see Fox's US flag just above the logo. Then they blur it out. Then they get a clean feed.

Then Jeremy Thompson directs viewers to the area of the screen "just above the word Breaking", and later says "if we just lose the strap there you'll be able to see a lot clearer" and the strap goes. Now that's good newscasting.

Yes, I was glad Jeremy said this, it was just what I was hoping they'd do.

And again as I type..... "let me show you the map on the SkyStrator without the strap on the bottom...." Very Happy

They've got the Skystrator out now.

See this is exactly when they need a 2-line Breaking News strap, for when they have the ticker running, with the Breaking News bit on the left, or just get rid of the words Breaking News altogether and leave Sky News Flash on the left; cut a line off the top and let us see more of the picture.

I think you should keep a tab of how many times I need to thank you, Lee! And I'm sorry, but that "Sky News etc..." voice over is hilarity. I'm no way biased against the Australian accent. I'm an avid watcher of Neighbours. But that voice over is classic.

Has anyone got any caps of what dvboy was talking about with Sky blurring the American flag peeping through from Fox?

Good question MoD......everyone seems to have gone quiet regarding the implementation of the revised graphics on Sky News. Someone quoted the 15th March as "the date" (God knows we've had a lot of "dates" touted around recently).

They were right for SNA so that makes me think perhaps they do have a degree of inside knowledge/insight, but they havent come forward with any further information on when/if Sky News will be adopting the new openers/graphics....
