Just spotted a new Coming Up gfx on News 24 ... seems to have a scrolling www.bbc.co.uk/bbcnews24 under a big COMING UP .

Vile, then.

Moz: only in your special world could the lack of text on a News Online ticker take precedent over a man with half his face blown off pictured just below it. Sense of proportion, I think.

Who composed, and what orchestra produced the BBC News themes 1993-1999?

Why the need for the BBC before the News 24 in the web address? Surely as it's part of the BBC site then we already know that it is something to do with the BBC. Why not just www.bbc.co.uk/news24

Big head?

So many connotations there.

Either way, it helps.

Re the debate on the Breaking News banner...I can sympathise with both sides here.

On the one hand, it can be distracting when a story (and therefore captions) on one story, have a caption on something else entirely.

On the other, Moz is entirely correct IMO in that the BN banner is often put on-screen for the whole of one minute or so, and then removed. Rival channels keep it on-screen for a few minutes after - and so viewers could be forgiven for *thinking* that News 24 doesn't know about a breaking story.

A sensible compromise seems to be, that the new graphics set is a lot more adaptable in being able to change between stories and styles quickly - so use it and strike a sensible bit of middle-ground!!

What I'd prefer is just use the breaking news splash and aston when the news breaks, and use the aston only when they go back to the story, but in the meantine, put the ticker up with the breaking news.

I agree with the ticker idea as the best all-round solution, but certainly an improvement tonight, the latest news break on the Madrid bombs has been on-screen pretty much continually since 30 or so minutes now. A step in the right direction, with the flexibility of the graphics noticeably being used during the headlines at 0015.

Only criticisms - I'm surprised the bright-red caption is kept for so long, possibly dark red becomes better after a while, not sure on this one. Oh, and the ticker is underused.

Does anyone have any caps of Kate Karraway, Krisnan Guru-Murthy, and Julie Etchingham when they were on News 24?

Also, does anyone know when Rob Butler presented Business Breakfast?

Thanks

Laughing I was just pointing it out! Wink

Anyway, I think 'half his face blown off' is a bit much (unless you're used to a sensationalist news channel!). He's got a bit of a black eye, that's all. Bit of steak and it'll be right as rain.

Some very impressive election coverage on BBC News at the moment. There is a special on World/N24 with presenters in Madrid and Moscow and correspondents everywhere.

I really am looking forward to the US election in November, I think we can expect some excellent coverage from the UK news channels, as opposed to being shocked and awed by the likes of CNN/NBC/ABC/CBS with all of their wizz bang pop broadcasting.
