Getting rid of every radio station makes no difference. All those stations do not take up the amount of room a TV Channel does and all the Radio stations are really just using a bit of left over space on some of the MUX's.
As for Price-drop well they only signed a short contract to use Channel 4's space. They have about 6 months left. If Top-up never came, More4 and Price drop could have used Channel 4's 2 spaces, but as Top up is not using one for E4, UKTV FOOD and Bloomberg, the one where Price-drop is now will be used by More 4.
As for Bid-up, I can only see that staying if Disney Daytime does not come to SDN as that Mux will then have Five, QVC, Top-uptv channels x3 and then one space (for either Daytime or Bid-up). Bid-up could move to the space where Channel 22 is (on the Crown Castle Mux....where CBM once was). Thats the only other hope. At the end of the day you can thank Top-up tv for these 2 channels going. If Top-up did not start for another year or 2, then I would have thought these channels would have stayed for longer.

Hi,
Sorry to ask this but is bid-up.tv and price-drop.tv definately going to be gone on Freeview?
I really like these channels, they are the only ones I mainly watch, and will be sad to see them go.
Couldn't they get rid of QVC and a radio station (or is that inpossible)?
thanx,
LoveTV

Argh, just everything about tits up tv is really p*ssing me off.
Guess my freeview box will be getting plopped on ebay if bid-up/price-drop are removed, since it's pretty much all I watch.
VERY frustrating indeed - wouldn't have happened (at least not for a lot longer) if someone decided leasons were to be learnt from ITVD's failure and realised DTT is not a practical platform for pay TV in this day and age.

They seem to have the timesharing working now, the preview channel has moved to TCM which would be transmitting now.
There 'what's on' section has highlights for April, so I'd imagine we're looking at a late March launch date. Pure speculation this, but I'm going to go predict Monday 29th March as their launch date.
I see they are now using a yellow gnome character on the website - is this their answer to the ITV Digital monkey?
I think you're a bit confused here. Daytime was not going on SDN, it was going on Freeview's multiplex D (the legendary channel 22; always there, never showing anything). SDN can only support 4 UK wide channels, the other two are only available outside of Wales and use space which S4C and S4C2 use in Wales. This is why QVC can't be received in Wales, and whilst it is true there is one slot left, this channel couldn't broadcast to Wales. Bid Up is presently using space which Top Up TV needs and so whilst it may stay on DTT, it can't stay in it's current home. It may decide that the extra channel on SDN which can't be received in Wales is suitable for their purposes and go after it, but I think it more likely that for the time being, it will replace Price Drop on D3&4, and in time move to multiplex D.
I'm almost tempted not to dignify that 'argument' with a response, but I'll humour you...
Firstly, yes there were lessons to be learnt from ITVD's failure, and they have been learnt. This is not ITV Digital MKII. That they are both pay TV platforms is where the buck stops. There is nothing at all to say that DTT isn't a viable platform for pay TV - you need look no further than see what Freeview have managed (not very much) to see that pay TV is desperately needed to get some decent channels on there.
You just have no argument, and the weak lines you were just made even weaker by your attempt to qualify them by claiming that Top Up is evil because it will deprive the viewing public of *shock* Bid Up TV and Price Drop TV. Well I take it all back, banish Top Up from the earth! Heaven forbid someone should try to offer people Discovery Channel and E4 and UK Gold if doing that means that Price Drop TV's coverage has to suffer as a result!
Seriously (if I can take it seriously), that you acknowledge yourself that two shopping channels are what you consider 'the most worthwhile' channels to watch on DTT, only shows how badly Top Up is needed. And in any case, with or without Top Up, one of the channels would have disappeared soon anyway, the transmission deal on D3&4 for Price Drop was a short term deal and it was never intended that they would both remain on there forever.

But, perhaps DTT should be left to focus on non-subscription channels. Obviously as a main digital platform it leaves a lot to be desired, which can be met by cable/Dsat, but whilst people continue to say you have the choice between sticking with Freeview or TUTV, enevitably we won't because TUTV is 'taking up' space that could be used for more channels on Freeview. The loss of TV Travel Shop was not significant to most people, but it was still being lost to make way for something I don't want to recieve - and the sacrifice of a further two channels (minimum, seemingly) - which whilst you personally don't watch is only a worrying sign of things to come - nothing but barkers for TUTV.

Why the hell do you think they are worth watching?
You must be in an extreme minority - perhaps 0.0000001% of the viewing population who actually like and watch these channels.

Ahhh, the joys of the misinformed, and those who are unprepared to except those that do not fit into the norm - the norm being what they watch of course...
bid-up has a huge cult following these days (I say huge as in the scope that shopping telly can reach) and if you watched it at the right times as anything more than just a shopping channel, you might just (but I wouldn't bet on you trying) find it's funnier than anything Harry Hill spews in his weekly journal of 'observational humour'.

Barney my friend, read this thread through. Freeview can't even fill their space, let alone need to try and secure other people's. It's got as good as it's ever going to get.
And can we let the conspiracy theories die please, Top Up TV towers isn't plotting it's next big plan to clear space for it's pay service; the way it is now is the way it will stay until/unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
And in any case, you don't know that Top Up can be directly blamed for any channel losses. Price Drop was always a temporary addition, TV Travel Shop's contract had expired and it was by no means clear whether they would have renewed it anyway. And as I said, Bid Up will probably find alternative space.
But if you really like shopping channels that much, might I suggest getting yourself DSAT from Astra 2? There you'll find hundreds (literally) of FTA shopping channels, more than enough to keep you happy I would've thought.

Nah
, I have Telewest downstairs, but for the time I spend around here (ie. always, plopping around this forum) I just like having the DTT box which I can hook up to my TV and more importantly capture card.
Losing both/either channels as hard as it may be for you to accept would just be frustrating for me, and I know anyway a niche that would be angered by its lack of presence.
I didn't mean to imply any huge conspiracies about TUTV's plans for the future. Next question then - what number of channels as it stands are available (after tits up moves in that is)?

Do you mean free space? There is space for one more channel (note: I'm defining a channel as being a 24 hour slot) on multiplex D and one more on SDN (although that wouldn't be available in Wales)

Ok.
So, do you think an approach like TUTV is necessary to make DTT a success?
I just feel bringing payTV to DTT closes up any opportunities to 'save' Freeview - and has turned campaigns such as BBC's '8 free digital channels' into waste when eventually there is likely to be no easy way to get free digital television...
