ah right, I assumed the current quality was a compromise because it was being done live

Nah; as noggin explained, if they had the right equipment, it'd be fine. No need to pre-render them at all.

OK, here's a question - forgive my ignorance, but I've not used Freeview before.

When I try and access the BBC News multi-screen, the box says that it can't support it. Freeview does *have* the multiscreen, doesn't it?

There is a two-screen version of the multiscreen on Freeview, but there are a couple of boxes which don't work with it.

What make/model of box do you have? Is it a Netgem?

A Samsung SIR-U200i. Which two screens are they?

Check out www.marksmith.dsl.pipex.com/receivers/bbcnewsmultiscreen.html

The two screens are the BBCi headline loop (as available on the News 24 website) and one which usually has an extended loop on the main story of the day or a feed of a live event/press conference once News 24 has moved on to another story. They also show things like the 12.15am paper review for a couple of hours

Ah, thanks for that.

I'll probably just stick with the current box - I'll be moving out in a few months, and I can get a nice set-up then. No-one else in my family cares about the interactive stuff anyway.

Has the location strap in the bottom right been used before?

I've seen it once or twice before. I've also seen it with 'LIVE Location Name' all in white on black. Looks a mess especially with the main LIVE/Location bugs at the top left.

Also a shame that the LIVE bug doesn't align with the top of the inset picture.

BBC World seems to be in a more robust part of TV Centre, as it seems to suffer less from technical problems, a channel not funded by the licence fee! Wink
