Why are the male BBC News presenters (Darren, George, Huw) often wearing a pink tie?

BBC World seems to be in a more robust part of TV Centre, as it seems to suffer less from technical problems, a channel not funded by the licence fee! Wink

I think they should put the 1/6/10 and News 24 in different stages so that at least we always get a domestic news service.

Should World go tits up, they can always switch to News 24 for a bit.

World is not a suitable replacement for the 1, but News 24 would be.

It is in a slightly diffent part of the building, hence why it didn't have to evacuate yesterday (remember yesterday wasn't a technical problem) but it uses the same technical infrastructure as the rest of News,

If you think that no license fee funding means necessarily better facilities, you should see the rest (the non-news bits) of BBC World!

Well, I'm not saying I dislike pink ties, but they do wear them very often. Not that it is annoying, not at all! But... Well, it's conspicuous. Very Happy

Interesting APTN "subscription needed" slide appeared briefly on News 24 during the PM's speech to the Scottish Labour conference, followed by a shot of the presenter about to apologise, but then the pictures came back

Why bother? To be fair powercuts and evacuations shouldn't really be taking place as frequently as they have been of late. Moving them to different parts of various buildings is a pointless move just in order to have a service ready to supply to viewers should the other go down.

It would be less practical for staff also. Having the newsroom and studios all in the same building makes it quicker for staff to get to and from each area and surely allows the likes of breaking news to get their quicker.

I think the British viewers are a little more forgiving should there be a fire alarm in the newsroom. I mean we're not all as heartless as to not care our journalists would burn to death.

I'm also sure we'd rather see some form of news rather than some caption, that this forum can cream over, on the screen. Rolling Eyes

This morning the titles for Weekend 24 at 8am showed "BBC Weekend 24" text instead of "BBC News" spinning around the globe, but the text going at a different angle round the globe, diagonally instead of right around it. Has this ident been going round for a while cus I've only just noticed it!

Speaking of the titles - BBC World's titles have been spinning from the wrong place on the globe all afternoon. Had I not read it on here, I wouldn't have even noticed that it was wrong, but it's easy to notice now that I know the globe is meant to spin around the area where the news is happening. The top story this morning was the end of the North Korea talks, so the globe was spinning from East Asia. However, throughout the day, the top story has changed from that to both Haiti's unrest and an Israeli air strike, yet all the ones I have seen have still spun from East Asia. Can anyone explain why this is so - is it just the case that someone has forgotten to enter the new starting point?

Yes I also noticed this weirdness, also BBC World News have ditched the inverted effect back to just fading in the BBC NEWS logo on the titles that are rendered live, it must mean it's not possible to do the proper animation as it's done on the pre-rendered titles.
